Angels vs Red Sox Probable Starters

Detmers makes his third start of the campaign Sunday after a pair of subpar outings thus far. To begin the year, the lefty allowed two earned across 4.2 frames against the Mariners before the Blue Jays tagged him for five runs in total last time out. He did toss five innings, however.

The 23-year-old owns a 5.59 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 9.3 innings while walking five. Detmers has actually pitched extremely well against Boston in his young career, compiling a 3.00 ERA in two starts. That’s good news.

Whitlock made his season debut on Tuesday after undergoing hip surgery last September but unfortunately, he came up against a red-hot Rays lineup. They lit him up for five earned runs and eight hits, including three home runs.

The Georgia native was actually solid in 2022 though, mostly featuring out of the bullpen. He posted a 3.45 ERA, striking out 82 in 78.1 innings while issuing just 15 free passes. That being said, Whitlock has an ERA over five versus LA.

The biggest problem for Boston through the first handful of games is their pitching, collecting a brutal 5.24 ERA as a staff. Offensively, however, the Red Sox are producing, and that continued Saturday.

They banged out 11 hits in total and scored nine runs, also clubbing two bombs. Yu Chang in particular had a massive game, going 2 for 4 with four RBI, including a long ball. That homer ended a brutal 0 for 28 start to the season.

Los Angeles isn’t actually looking too bad right now, sitting at 7-7. They rank top-10 in both runs scored and team ERA. While it’ll be very difficult to come out of the AL West, the star power is there to do so.

Tyler Anderson was lit up Saturday though, allowing six earned in just four frames. At the plate, Mike Trout was 3 for 4. Shohei Ohtani also had a pair of hits.
