  • In the Astros vs Yankees ALCS odds and prediction, Houston is a -190 favorite over New York
  • This best-of-seven series gets underway on Wednesday, October 19
  • The Astros and Yankees are clashing in the ALCS for the third time since 2017

Back in the ALCS, the Houston Astros are in a familiar place and in the New York Yankees, are facing a familiar foe.

This is the sixth successive season in which the Astros find themselves playing in the ALCS. It’s the third time since 2017 that Houston will be squaring off against the Yankees.

That doesn’t bode well for the boys from the Bronx. New York has lost both previous ALCS showdowns with Houston. The Yankees fell in six games in 2019 and in a seven-game thriller in 2017.

It’s the Astros who are again expected to emerge victorious. Oddsmakers are setting Houston as a -190 ALCS favorite. Since moving to the American League, the Astros are 3-0 straight up in MLB postseason series against the Yankees.

New York was 2-5 against the runline in the seven games this season facing the Astros. The over was 2-4-1 in those seven games.

In 14 playoff previous playoff games between the two teams, the home team is 10-4 SU. During the 2017 ALCS, the home team was the winner in all seven games played.

Astros vs Yankees Betting Trends

Houston is #3 in the AL with an 87-78 record against the runline this season. The Yankees are 14th out of 15 AL teams at 75-92.

At 42-41, Houston is the only AL playoff team to be showing a winning home record against the runline. The Yankees are 39-45 ATR at home, a 46.4% rate.

On the road, the Astros are an impressive 45-37 ATR. At 36-47 (43.4%), the Yankees are displaying the worst road ATR record of an AL club.

Houston vs New York Probable Pitchers

With a three-day rest since the conclusion of their ALDS sweep of the Seattle Mariners, the Astros can set up their pitching rotation any way they’d like. In the MLB lineups, ace right-hander Justin Verlander, the chalk in the AL Cy Young odds, will be getting the ball for Game 1. Verlander, 39, led the AL with 18 wins.

The Yankees will be countering with right-hander Jameson Taillon. He equaled a career high with 14 wins this season. However, with a one-day rain delay for Game 5 of the ALDS, New York manager Aaron Boone was opting to skip Taillon and go with Nestor Cortes on three-day’s rest.

The Yankees will likely be looking to go with ex-Astros pitcher Gerrit Cole in Game 2. Next up would be Luis Severino.

Expect Houston to counter with Framber Valdez (Game 2) and Lance McCullers Jr (Game 3), with Jose Urquidy and his three career playoff wins in reserve for Game 4.

Yankees vs Astros Team Stats

Pitching is what makes the Astros tick. This season Houston was the only AL staff to post an ERA under 3.00 (2.90) and a WHIP under 1.10 (1.09). The Astros were second in MLB in both of these categories, as well as in batting average allowed (.212). As well, the bullpen chalked up an AL-best 53 saves.

.751 OPS .743
3.30 ERA 2.90

The Yankees were third in MLB in ERA (3.30) and sixth in strikeouts (1,177). New York slugged an MLB-leading 254 home runs and led the American League with 807 runs scored. But the Astros clouted 214 dingers to finish second in the AL.

Yankees vs Astros Series Prediction

Houston has the better pitching staff and has the rotation all set up to go in the order they’d like it to be. New York is scrambling to piece together a rotation, and battling with injury concerns all over the diamond. The Yankees are still sorting out who is their best option at shortstop.

Houston a battle-hardened playoff team, unlike the young Cleveland club the Yankees were able to rally to defeat in the ALDS.

Best Bet: Houston Astros ML (-190)
