It’s officially set. Divisional rivals will battle it out in the 2022 NLDS as the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies clash, with Game 1 scheduled for Tuesday at Truist Park.

Philly took out the St. Louis Cardinals in the Wild Card in two straight games at Busch Stadium. Atlanta meanwhile won the NL East with a spectacular 101-61 record, securing first place over the New York Mets on head-to-head.

Atlanta vs Philadelphia Team Stats

The Braves were one of the best teams in baseball across the board this season. They ranked third in runs scored (4.9), first in slugging (.443), and 2nd in homers (243). Five different players went deep at least 20 times, led by Austin Riley, who cranked 38 long balls. Matt Olson also had 33 home runs. This lineup is scary from top to bottom and will be a handful for Philly’s arms.

On the mound, they’re just as good. Brian Snitker’s staff compiled an impressive 3.46 ERA. That was fifth in the bigs. It was two youngsters who led the staff in Max Fried and Spencer Strider. The lefty went 14-7 with a 2.48 ERA, while Strider, the NL Rookie of the Year favorite, posted an 11-5 record and 2.67 ERA while striking out a mind-boggling 202 hitters in just 131.2 innings. Don’t forget, Atlanta also has an elite closer. Kenley Jansen collected 41 saves this year after coming over from the Dodgers.

The Phils showed some real guts in the Cardinals series, scoring six runs in Game 1 in the top of the ninth after being down 2-0. Then on Saturday, Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber provided enough offense behind an absolute gem from Aaron Nola to shut out St. Louis and move on. Philadelphia can also swing it with authority, ranking seven in runs (4.6), eighth in average (.253), and sixth in long balls (205).

The problem for the Phillies has been their pitching. Their team ERA of 3.97 isn’t great by any means, but it’s more the bullpen that has struggled with an ERA well over four. Against an electric Braves offense, the likes of Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and possibly Ranger Suarez and Noah Syndergaard must step up and deliver. If Thor continues to pitch out of the pen, he could be a solid weapon for Philly as a reliever. Same with Zach Eflin.

Braves vs Phillies Series Prediction

Both clubs have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, but Atlanta is just more consistent and most notably has more depth in their rotation. I don’t think it will be a clean sweep, but the Braves are going to prove just why they’re a legitimate threat to make another Fall Classic run.

Pick: Braves moneyline -220
