Nats Keep Rolling In Game 3 Rout

Washington turned in yet another dominant postseason performance in Monday’s 8-1 rout of St. Louis, paying out on -125 odds, and extending their series lead to 3-0 going into Tuesday night’s Game 4 at Nationals Park.

The hit parade continued as they tallied a double-digit hit total for the third time in five outings with 11 hits, including five for extra bases. Washington batters also strengthened their clutch credentials by driving in seven of the club’s eight runs on the evening with two out.

Washington Pitchers Overpowering Cards

Stephen Strasburg also turned in a sparkling performance, scattering seven hits over 7.0 innings without giving up a run.

Strasburg also combined with relievers Fernando Rodney and Tanner Rainer to strikeout sixteen Cardinals in Game 3, extending a trend that has seen Nationals hurlers fan 11 or more batters in seven of the club’s nine postseason contests this month.

With wins in each of their past five outings, and 17 of 20 overall since September 20, the Nationals have seen their championship odds increase across the board.

Washington now sits perched as a massive -4000 favorite to advance out of the NLCS, and have also climbed to +175  in the World Series odds, trailing only the Houston Astros.

Corbin Searches For First Postseason Win

The Nationals will send southpaw Patrick Corbin to the hill on Tuesday as they look to complete their first postseason series sweep in franchise history. Corbin has made just one start so far in the postseason, surrendering three hits and one earned run over 6.0 innings to take the loss in Game 1 of the NLDS.

Corbin was also beat up in a dismal relief performance in Game 3 against the Dodgers, allowing six earned runs in just 0.2 innings in a 10-4 loss, but has surrendered two or fewer earned runs in five of seven previous starts against the Cardinals, capped by an 11-strikeout, shutout performance in a 6-2 win in St. Louis back on September 17.

Cardinals in Desperation Mode

The club struggled once again to generate consistent offense in Game 4. The top three in the St. Louis order, Dexter Fowler, Kolten Wong, and Paul Goldschmidt, combined to go 0-for-12 with seven strikeouts in Game 3, extending a power outage that has limited the Cardinals to just two total runs in the series, and one or fewer runs in five of their past seven contests.

Faced with the daunting task of becoming only the second team in MLB history to overcome a 3-0 deficit in a postseason series, the Cardinals now lag as a distant +1000 bet on the MLB series prices, and have slipped to +2000 longshots to win the World Series.

Hudson Seeking Second Straight Win Over Nats

The Cardinals’ fading postseason hopes will be in the hands of righthander Dakota Hudson on Tuesday night. The 25-year-old has made just one postseason appearance, surrendering five hits and one earned run over 4.2 innings in a 5-4 win over Atlanta while the Cardinals faced elimination in Game 4 of the NLDS.

Hudson also earned the win when the Cardinals hosted Washington back on September 16, allowing just five hits and two earned runs over 7.0 innings in a 4-2 victory at Busch Stadium, and will likely need to put on a similar performance if the Cards are to extend their season by at least one more day.

Pick: Washington Nationals to win Game 4 (-150); OVER 7.0 (-105)
