  • The Milwaukee Brewers are -180 home favorites over the Chicago Cubs in their MLB game slated for Wednesday, April 14th
  • Milwaukee’s three-game win streak over the Cubs ended Tuesday
  • Chicago starter Jake Arrieta has won four of five career decisions from the Brewers

The pendulum in the Chicago Cubs-Milwaukee Brewers series has swung back in favor of the Cubbies. Chicago ended Milwaukee’s three-game winning streak on Tuesday.

Prior to that stretch, the Cubbies were winners of three straight over the Brewers. And that hot run came on the heels of a four-game winning streak put together by Milwaukee.

As action resumes between these two NL Central rivals on Wednesday afternoon, it’s the Brewers who are listed as -180 home favorites. Milwaukee is 5-3 straight up against NL Central clubs so far this season.

First pitch is set for 1:40 pm ET at American Family Field. Clouds, 12 mph wind and a temperature of 42 degrees are in the forecast. The Marquee Sports Network, Bally Sports Wisconsin and the MLB Network are carrying the broadcast.

COVID Catching Cubs

COVID-19 is working its way through the Cubs’ lineup. First base coach Craig Driver and bullpen coach Chris Young have both tested positive for the virus.

Over the past two days, infielder Matt Duffy and relief pitchers Brandon Workman, Dan Winkler and Jason Adam were all placed on the COVID-19-related injured list.

Moments before the start of Tuesday’s game in Milwaukee, Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks was a late scratch, with the team acknowledging that Hendricks wasn’t feeling well.

Brewers Shuffle Staff

The Brewers recalled left-handed pitcher Angel Perdomo from the club’s alternate training site and optioned submarining right-hander Eric Yardley there.

It’s been a dreadful start to 2021 for Yardley. He is showing a 9.00 ERA from five appearances. The righty has surrendered seven hits, issued three walksk and hit two batters in five innings of work.

Perdomo wasn’t much better during a brief 2020 stint with Milwaukee. The southpaw was saddled with a 20.25 ERA from two innings of big-league work.

Arrieta Solid Against Brewers

Cubs starter Jake Arrieta is already 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA this season and he’s continuing his recent road success.

In his last start, the right-hander checked the Pittsburgh Pirates on two runs over six innings for his third road win in as many decisions.

Burnes in Select Company

Corbin Burnes takes the mound for Milwaukee. Already this season, the right-hander has made MLB history.

Burnes has opened the season with consecutive starts of six-plus innings without allowing a walk. He’s the first pitcher to ever begin a season in such fashion. Two others did it while including at least one relief outing – Cy Young (1904) and Hal Brown (1963).

They’ve scored two runs or fewer in four of his past five starts.
