The two bottom teams in the National League East will start a three-game series on Monday as the Washington Nationals visit the Miami Marlins. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM ET at loanDepot Park.

Aaron Sanchez gets the ball here for DC, looking to improve upon his forgettable start to 2022. The Marlins counter with Sandy Alcantara.

The Marlins are a heavy -215 favorite here and have won three in a row against the Nats.

Washington vs Miami Probable Pitchers

Pitching hasn’t been a strong suit for Washington this season and Sanchez is definitely part of their struggles. The veteran is 2-2 with a disappointing 7.58 ERA in four starts. He hasn’t pitched more than 5.1 innings in any start so far, but Sanchez is coming off a rather decent outing.

He tossed that same amount of innings against the Mets, allowing three runs on six hits while earning the win. Sanchez has also done well vs. Miami, posting a 3.86 ERA in three appearances.

Sanchez vs Alcantara

Aaron Sanchez
VS
Sandy Alcantara
2-2 Record 2-2
7.58 ERA 2.74
1.42 WHIP 1.22
.316 OBA .221

Alcantara meanwhile is certainly proving to be the ace of this Marlins staff. The hard-throwing right-hander owns a stellar 2.74 ERA in seven starts. Although he’s only 2-2, Alcantara is showing serious promise. He has surrendered 19 walks in 42.2 innings but if the Dominican can get that fastball command down, he will be a serious force to be reckoned with. Alcantara is even a long +3000 in NL Cy Young odds.

Alcantara was dominant in his last outing, throwing seven frames of one-hit baseball against the Diamondbacks. He also racked up seven strikeouts. The 26-year-old faced the Nats earlier in the year, allowing a mere one run in six clean innings.

Nationals Betting Outlook

After breaking out of a two-game losing streak on Saturday against the Astros, Justin Verlander absolutely shut the Nats down on Sunday as they lost 8-0. Washington mustered up just four hits on the day and looked abysmal offensively, now dropping to 3-7 in their last 10 games.

Most of their lineup has faced Alcantara before, with Juan Soto hitting .348 off him. However, the likes of Josh Bell, Nelson Cruz, and Alcides Escobar struggle against Alcantara.

Marlins Betting Outlook

Miami is barely above Washington in the NL East and just lost two out of three to the Brewers. The bats were quiet on Sunday, with Milwaukee beating them 7-3. The Marlins also made two errors which didn’t help their cause.

At the plate, Miami isn’t doing that badly. They’re batting .238 as a group and scoring 4.3 runs per game. The staff is looking solid too, compiling a 3.45 ERA. Their 3-7 record in the last 10 is what’s put them back under .500 at 15-19. This is a team with a lot of promise on both sides of the ball, it’s just a matter of being consistent.

Nationals vs Marlins Prediction

You really don’t know what you’re going to get from Sanchez. Alcantara on the other hand is consistent and already dealt against the Nats not long ago. I like the Marlins here to cover the runline.

Pick: Marlins -1.5 (+100)
