Baltimore vs Atlanta Probable Pitchers

Atlanta (23-11, 8-8 home) enters play as the favorites in the World Series odds, as they seek their second title in three years. Baltimore (22-11, 13-7 away) meanwhile, is still an extreme championship longshot at +5000, despite having the second fewest losses in baseball.

The Braves will turn to Bryce Elder on Sunday, who’s been virtually unhittable for most of the season. The 23-year-old has shut out his opponent in four of his six outings, yielding only seven total runs over 36 innings.

Elder was penciled in as the number five starter in Atlanta’s rotation, but so far he’s outperformed all of them with the exception of NL Cy Young odds favorite Spencer Strider. The right-hander blanked Miami over 7 innings in his last outing, allowing only three hits and striking out six.

Wells vs Elder Stats

2-1 Record 3-0
3.34 ERA 1.75
0.77 WHIP 1.06
.171 OBA .221
4.5 SO/W Ratio 2.5

The Orioles will counter with a righty of their own in Tyler Wells. The 28-year-old has looked brilliant at times in 2023, but awful during other stretches. His latest outing was his worst of the season, as he was lit up by the light-hitting Royals.

KC tagged Wells for four runs in 6 innings, taking him deep three times. That marked the second start this season in which Wells has been taking deep at least twice, and the second outing where he’s coughed up four runs.

In between those two rough starts, he has pitched well, but it’s important to note the level of competition. He shut out Detroit two weeks ago over 7 innings, but only the Marlins are more lifeless offensively than the Tigers.

The Braves, on the other hand, have a top-five set of regulars in the MLB starting lineups, cranking homers at MLB’s second-highest rate.

Orioles vs Braves Betting Notes

Atlanta went deep twice on Saturday in a 5-4 come-from-behind win, getting bombs from Kevin Pillar and Marcell Ozuna. The Braves rank second in slugging and OPS, and top-five in average, hits, and scoring.

Ronald Acuna Jr. is the leader in the NL MVP odds, while teammates Matt Olson and Austin Riley are fourth and seventh respectively. Acuna ranks second in the NL in average, and tops in steals. Olson leads the team in home runs (9) and RBI (28), while Riley is riding a six-game hitting streak.

Not to be outdone, the O’s enter play with a potent lineup of their own. They rank third in a loaded AL in scoring, and top-five in OPS, slugging, and average. Catcher Adley Rutschman is a top-four AL MVP candidate, and top to bottom, Baltimore is just extremely balanced offensively.

Seven players have an OPS north of .780, while six of them have cranked at least four dingers. Ryan Mountcastle leads the team in homers with eight, while Jorge Mateo has the highest WAR (1.6), slugging percentage (.565), and OPS (.918).

Orioles vs Braves Predictions

The potency of both lineups brings over 9 runs into play. Each of the first two games of this three-game set have produced at least nine runs, while the Braves and Orioles have seen their respective contests go over the total at the fourth and fifth-highest rates in MLB.

Orioles vs Braves 2023 H2H Results

Date Away Team Home Team Result
May 6 Orioles Braves ATL, 5-4
May 5 Orioles Braves BAL, 9-4

Atlanta home games in particular have been high-scoring, going 13-3 to the over so far. Truist Park is one of the top nine most hitter-friendly parks for right-handed batters, and the majority of the Braves’ best bats hit from that side of the plate.

Picks: Over 9 (-105), Atlanta Braves Over 5 Runs (-118)
