Don’t look now, but the Cubs (33-37, 20-16 home) are red-hot. Chicago has won five straight, putting up a ton of offense along the way, and will look to complete the three-game sweep of the Orioles (43-27, 21-14 away) on Sunday.

Online sportsbooks expect a hard fought, closely contested affair in the MLB odds, refusing to name a favorite on the moneyline as of late Saturday night.

Baltimore vs Chicago Probable Pitchers

Despite back-to-back defeats, Baltimore still boasts a top-three record in MLB. Their impressive mark has not made them a top contender in the World Series odds though, as they check in with the 12th shortest price to win it all.

The O’s will give the ball to Dean Kremer on Sunday, who’s fresh off one of his better starts of the season. Kremer held the mighty Blue Jays bats to two runs over 6 innings in an 8-2 victory, striking out six batters along the way.

He’s now fanned at least five hitters in five straight starts, allowing three runs or less in seven of his past eight outings.

Kremer vs Taillon Stats

Jameson Taillon
7-3 Record 2-4
4.74 ERA 6.70
1.43 WHIP 1.51
.296 OBA .286
3.4 SO/W Ratio 2.6

The Cubs will counter with Jameson Taillon, whose recent form isn’t quite so impressive. Taillon has coughed up at least four runs in five of his past seven starts, failing to make it out of the 5th inning five times since the start of May.

Keeping the ball in the yard has been a major issue for the right-hander, as have walks. Taillon has surrendered six home runs in his last four starts while issuing six walks in his last two outings.

He’s got plenty of history versus the Orioles regulars in the MLB starting lineups, and for the most part it has not gone well. Taillon has yielded a .276/.354/.500 slash line in his career versus Baltimore, with only eight strikeouts in 58 at-bats.

Orioles vs Cubs Predictions

K’s won’t be easy to come by for Taillon on Sunday, as the O’s whiff at the American League’s fifth-lowest rate. Baltimore is a top-10 lineup in runs per game and slugging, and have been tearing the cover off the ball this week.

The O’s are slashing .312/.356/.521 over the last seven days, averaging six runs per contest. They’re down a couple key regulars as both Ryan Mountcastle (illness) and Cedric Mullins (groin) are on IL, but they still have more than enough pop to get to Taillon.

Ryan O’Hearn and Gunnar Henderson have been doing the bulk of the damage this week, combining for five home runs and 13 RBI, while batting .556 and .333 respectively.

The Cubs meanwhile, have found something offensively. After struggling at the dish for most of the last month, they’re hitting .300 over the last week, while averaging 7.5 runs per game. They’ve crossed the plate 41 times during their five-game winning streak, outscoring the opposition by 25 runs.

They’re also down a man in Patrick Wisdom (wrist), but the rest of the Chicago batters are in form. Christopher Morel is leading the charge with three homers, 11 RBI, and a .500 average over the last week, while Ian Happ is right behind him slashing .333/.440/.619 during that stretch.

The Cubs have also fared significantly better against lefties like Kremer than righties this season, posting a slugging percentage that is .61 points higher, and an OPS that is .69 points better.

Picks: Over 8.5 (+100). Jameson Taillon, Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-110).
