On the hill, it will be Joe Musgrove against Chris Bassitt, two righties who both enjoyed fantastic seasons for their respective ball clubs.

Padres vs Mets Probable Pitchers

Musgrove was nothing short of outstanding in 2022, going 10-7 with a 2.93 ERA in 30 starts. He proved to be the ace of this Padres rotation and comes into this outing in very good form.

The right-hander has given up just one run in his last four appearances. In fact, he’s pitched back-to-back shutouts. Musgrove surrendered just two hits in six scoreless innings back on October 3rd against the Giants. However, in one start vs. New York, Musgrove owns a 6.75 ERA.

Musgrove vs Bassitt

10-7 Record 15-9
2.93 ERA 3.42
181 Innings Pitched 181.2
184 Strikeouts 167

Bassitt proved to be extremely reliable for the Mets after coming over in the offseason. The former Oakland Athletic made 30 starts in total, pitching to a 3.42 ERA and 15-9 record. He also struck out 167 in 181.2 innings.

The veteran had a rough outing to finish the campaign though, giving up four earned in 2.2 frames against the always-dangerous Atlanta Braves. Unfortunately, Bassitt doesn’t pitch very well versus San Diego either, giving up nine earned runs in 10.1 innings. Hopefully, he can turn the tables on Sunday.

Can Padres Bounce Back?

San Diego clubbed four homers off Max Scherzer the other night and left the Mets faithful absolutely stunned. But, Jacob deGrom carved up the Padres in Game 2 as they collected just five hits off him and two runs, including another bomb from Trent Grisham.

On the mound, Blake Snell only lasted 3.1 innings due to some brutal control issues, surrendering six walks and two runs. The bullpen didn’t fare much better, either. The pressure is on Musgrove’s shoulders in Game 3 and the offense will be looking to continue their success off Bassitt.

Mets Looking to Keep The Momentum Going

After a quiet day at the plate in the Padres vs Mets series opener, New York came ready to play in Game 2. Francisco Lindor got things started on the right foot with a no-doubter solo shot in the first inning, while Pete Alonso also went deep in the fifth. It was the seventh inning that proved to be the difference-maker though as the Mets put up a four-spot, highlighted by a two-run double from Jeff McNeil.

deGrom meanwhile was lights out, giving up just two runs on five hits while striking out eight. Edwin Diaz surprisingly came into the game in the seventh and dominated, with Adam Ottavino and Seth Lugo then finishing things up to even up the series.

Padres vs Mets Game 3 Pick

This is a tough one. Neither pitcher does well in this matchup, at least based on recent history. However, I truly think Bassitt is going to keep his team in this game enough to pull out a win. The bats woke up for the Mets on Saturday and they’ll keep it rolling. I like New York in the Padres vs Mets Game 3 odds here.

Pick: Mets moneyline -137
