Nearly everyone expected the Houston Astros to make it to the World Series after a tremendous regular season. The same cannot be said for the Philadelphia Phillies. Tonight, we break down the best World Series Game 1 props between the two.
Philadelphia dropped 13 of their final 20 regular season games, and just barely squeaked into the playoffs. Once October baseball started however, they caught fire. The Phillies are 9-2 in the postseason, scoring 57 runs.
Their lineup will face their stiffest test to date in the playoffs in Game 1 of the World Series, as Justin Verlander will toe the rubber for Houston. Verlander was exceptional in the ALCS versus the Yankees and is our first target in the Phillies vs Astros player props.

Verlander’s strikeouts over/under is set at 6.5, one K higher than opposing pitcher Aaron Nola. The 39-year-old has a long track record of success in the postseason, and has dominated Philly batters in the past.
World Series Prop #1: Justin Verlander Over 6.5 Strikeouts
No pitcher in MLB history has more playoff strikeouts than Verlander. He set the mark in Game 1 of the ALCS, whiffing 11 Yankees over 6 innings in a 4-2 victory.

Verlander has averaged 10 strikeouts per 9 innings over his postseason career, and has at least seven k’s in five of his past seven starts in 2022.
He faced Philadelphia earlier this month in a rare interleague October matchup, and struck out 10 Phillies over just 5 innings. Verlander doesn’t have an extensive amount of history against the batters on Philly’s roster, however in 38 at-bats he’s recorded 15 strikeouts. That’s one K every 2.5 at-bats.
Pick: Justin Verlander Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+114), 1 unit
World Series Prop #2: Jose Altuve 1+ Hits
Sticking with the Astros, we’re going to buy low on Jose Altuve in our World Series Game 1 picks. Yes, his postseason got off to a dreadful start, but he finished strong with three hits over the final two ALCS games.
Altuve boasts a career .508 slugging percentage and .853 OPS in the playoffs. He’s batted .303 or better in six of Houston’s last 11 playoff series, and has hit Nola hard in limited opportunities.
Reminder: George Springer was 3-for-30 in the 2017 playoffs before getting hot and winning the World Series MVP.
Jose Altuve is currently 3-for-32. #LevelUp: activated.

Altuve is 2-for-5 (.400 avg) lifetime against Nola, while the Phillies hurler was very shaky in his NLCS start. He coughed up seven hits and six runs to the Padres, lasting just 4.2 innings.
Pick: Jose Altuve 1+ Hit (-230), 2 units
World Series Prop #3: Bryce Harper 1+ Home Runs
We cashed this prop in Game 1 of the NLCS, and we’re going right back to the well on Friday. Simply put, Harper has been crushing this postseason. He’s hitting .419 over 43 at-bats, with an absurd 1.351 OPS.

Harper’s already smacked five homers in 11 playoff starts, and is one of the few Phillies who’s had any success against Verlander. He’s 2-for-5 versus the AL Cy Young odds favorite, and has been especially dangerous as a visitor in 2022.
Harper is slashing .320/.385/.539 on the road, and is 9-for-19 (.473 avg) in his last five postseason games away from home.
Pick: Bryce Harper 1+ Home Run (+390), 0.25 units
