Can Lima Hand Amosov His First Career Loss?

Douglas Lima came up short last time out as he lost a decision to Gegard Mousasi for the middleweight title as he looked to try and become a champ-champ. After coming up short, he returns to his throne at welterweight as he takes on Yaroslav Amosov who’s a phenomenal 25-0 and has looked amazing in Bellator.

Lima & Amosov Recent Fights

Lima
VS
Amosov
Gegard Mousasi, loss by decision (title fight) Fight 1 Logan Storley, win by split decision
Rory MacDonald, win by decision (title fight) Fight 2 Mark Lemminger, win by TKO
Michael Page, win by KO Fight 3 Ed Ruth, win by decision
Andrey Koreshkov, win by submission Fight 4 David Rickels, win by submission

Although Amosov is 25-0 he hasn’t fought the highest level of competition, so it’s hard to tell just how good he is. He is a dominant wrestler that takes most of his opponents down, but his striking has gotten better. However, getting Lima down is easier said than done.

Lima is a great striker with an underrated ground game, and if he can keep this scrap on the feet he should be able to piece up the Ukrainian and defend his belt. Yet, there is no question this is the best wrestler he has faced in quite some time.

Amosov’s last fight was really telling as Storley was able to have some success with his wrestling and nearly won the fight. I also worry about his cardio to go five rounds. Meanwhile, we have consistently seen Lima go five rounds with ease and be able to mix in his striking with some wrestling.

Ultimately, I expect Lima to get taken down early on in the fight, but he will be able to use his jiu-jitsu to get back to his feet. Once he does that, he will be able to piece up Amosov once he slows down and either get a late TKO win once the undefeated fighter slows down or win a decision.

Pick: Douglas Lima (-139)

Can Jackson Continue His Rise?

Jason Jackson has looked amazing in Bellator as he’s 4-1, with his lone loss being a split decision to Ed Ruth in a fight that some thought he won. He also looked great against Benson Henderson and Neiman Gracie, but Paul Daley has legit one-punch KO power that Jackson needs to be worried about.

Daley & Jackson Recent Fights

Daley
VS
Jackson
Sabah Homasi, win by TKO Fight 1 Neiman Gracie, win by decision
Saad Awad, win by TKO Fight 2 Benson Henderson, win by decision
Erick Silva, win by decision Fight 3 Jordan Mein, win by decision
Michael Page, loss by decision Fight 4 Kiichi Kunimoto, win by decision

If Daley doesn’t get a first-round TKO, I do think it will be a long night for him. Ultimately, I like Jackson’s footwork and head movement to be able to make Daley miss. Also, I expect him to mix in his wrestling as we have seen Daley struggle with wrestlers in the past.

In the end, I think Jackson will survive the first round and then mix in his wrestling and jab Daley en route to a clear-cut decision win.

Pick: Jason Jackson (-240)

Other Bellator 260 Picks:

  1. Aaron Pico (-500): This is a tailor-made fight for Aaron Pico to go out there and KO Lee and get another highlight-reel win.
  2. Vanessa Porto (-455): Porto should be able to take this fight to the ground and either get a TKO win or a submission win.
  3. Mark Lemminger (-115): This is an evenly matched fight, but I like Lemminger’s all-around skillset more to get a decision win.
