Tuesday, January, 4th isn’t the busiest night of the NBA season, but there’s still plenty of action to get stuck into across the league. The impressive Grizzlies and Cavaliers go toe-to-toe in Cleveland, with Darius Garland potentially returning for the Cavaliers after clearing health and safety protocols.

Toronto has its core together to face the Spurs, who are without Dejounte Murray and Lonnie Walker. The Raps are favored by 5.5.

The Knicks host the Pacers at Madison Square Garden with both teams missing several rotation players, while the New Orleans Pelicans welcome the Phoenix Suns. The night is wrapped up in south California with the Kings taking on the Los Angeles Lakers, who are looking to win three games in a row for just the third time this season.

Odds as of Jan 4th at FanDuel

Raptors vs Spurs Player Props: Fred VanVleet Over 20.5 Points

Only six players are scoring more per game than Fred VanVleet over the last five. Toronto’s point guard has cruised past this 20.5 line in his last four outings, taking his season average up to 20.9 points per contest.

The Raptors offense ranks 10th over the last 10 games, representing a marked improvement from earlier in the season. VanVleet’s performances have been a major part of that, along with the star-level performances from Pascal Siakam. Toronto faces a San Antonio team which has been just about average defensively over that period, and is without its best perimeter defender in Dejounte Murray.

VanVleet is red-hot from three. He’s made 23 of his 50 attempts over his last four outings. He’s relentlessly shooting from downtown, and has been unafraid to attack the rim, resulting in a significant increase in his free throws over that span.

This is a really low number given how VanVleet has been playing of late. San Antonio plays at a high pace, and getting out in transition works in Toronto’s favor (they are number one in the league in transition frequency and ninth in efficiency).

Take VanVleet to hit this over. This could be wrapped up before the fourth quarter with the way he’s been shooting it.

  • Pick: Fred VanVleet over 20.5 points (-118)

Lakers vs Kings Player Props: Take the Over on Turnovers for Russell Westbrook

DraftKings has Russell Westbrook at +120 to record more than 4.5 turnovers. Much has been made of Westbrook’s giveaways this season, and with good reason. He’s clocking 4.8 turns per contest, which ranks second in the NBA. Only Steven Adams, Draymond Green and Kyle Lowry have a worse turnover rate than Westbrook in 2021-22.

Sacramento is one of the worst defenses in the league and ranks bottom five in turnover rate. That probably doesn’t change much here, though, considering that Westbrook turned it over seven times against Houston and five times against both Orlando and Oklahoma City. All three teams are below-average to awful defensively, and all rank in the bottom 10 in forcing turnovers.

Westbrook is up at 5.1 turnovers per game over the last 10. This game will be played at a frenetic pace with Sacramento and Los Angeles ranking in the top six in possessions per game – that’s a lot of opportunities for misjudged Westbrook passes.

Over the last eight games, Westbrook has recorded five or more turnovers on six occasions. This is an obvious over, particularly at plus odds.

  • Pick: Russell Westbrook over 4.5 turnovers (+120)
