The New York Knicks will be looking to get back to their winning ways on Friday, November 12th as they take a quick trip to Charlotte to face the Hornets. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm ET at The Spectrum Center.

New York is coming off a 12-point loss to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday at MSG. The Hornets, meanwhile, just broke out of a five-game losing skid with a much-needed victory against the Memphis Grizzlies.

This is the first meeting between the two teams this year, but the Knicks won two of three last season.

Knicks’ Core Need Bounce Back Game

New York was by no means awful offensively against the defending champions, shooting over 40% from three-point land and the field. But even though Derrick Rose showed out for a team-high 22 points, the main pieces for the Knicks really struggled.

Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, Evan Fournier, and Kemba Walker combined for just 29 points, with Randle dropping 16 on his own.

However, it was a very good sign to see the bench unit pick up the slack and keep their team in this game. Tom Thibodeau’s squad trailed 70-46 midway through the third quarter and stormed back to tie it up with only five minutes left in the fourth.

Thibs essentially stuck with his reserves for most of the second half and they proved their worth, with Immanuel Quickley also pouring in 18 points.

The Knicks were outplayed on the boards though, getting outrebounded 50-38. NY was also outscored 20-8 in second-chance points, a testament to their lack of attention to detail.

Obviously, it’s great to see the bench make their presence felt, but the likes of Randle and Barrett specifically need to respond on Friday. Lucky for them, the Hornets are 18th in the league in defensive rating and give up an Eastern Conference-worst 117.8 points per night.

This is a chance for the starters to put together a big offensive game on the road. New York is playing much better away from Madison Square Garden this season as well, going 5-1 as opposed to 2-4 on home court.

Gritty Win For Charlotte

It wasn’t easy, but the Hornets managed to end an awful cold spell on Wednesday, beating Memphis by 10 points. Ja Morant and Co. made a comeback in the third quarter, but Charlotte managed to hold on thanks to a 37-point eruption from Kelly Oubre Jr.

The ex-Warrior came off the bench and was red-hot, draining seven three-pointers. Oubre couldn’t miss a shot, going 13-for-17 overall from the field.

Gordon Hayward also collected 25 points, but the likes of LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges struggled to get going offensively. However, both players still made an impact, dishing out a total of 14 assists combined.

The Hornets really did a great job of facilitating the rock and finding good looks, shooting 42% from beyond the arc. Their entire starting lineup had at least five dimes in the victory, including big man Mason Plumlee.

Just like the Knicks’ loss to the Bucks, it was promising for the Hornets to see other guys step up such as Oubre. Ball and Bridges aren’t always going to show out and it’s a huge positive for James Borrego to know he has other weapons who can get it done.

Although Charlotte has been distraught on the defensive end, this was a better performance. The squad held Memphis to 24% shooting from long range and under 110 points.

To put that into perspective, they allowed an average of 122.6 during their losing streak. This could be a turning point but the Hornets will face another tough test in the Knicks who sit fourth in the Association in offensive rating.

Knicks vs Hornets Prediction

Charlotte is just 4-6 as an ATS underdog this season and has a 2-2 record at home. However, I really think the Knicks’ stars are going to come out with a vengeance here after a cold night and impose their will on the Hornets.

New York is playing with a lot more relaxed on the road at the moment and that will translate into a crucial victory on Friday.

Pick: New York Knicks -1.5 (-110)
