Two Northwest Division rivals in the Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz will meet on Wednesday, May 12th for the final time this season. Tip-off is set for 9:30pm ET at Vivint Arena.

The Blazers are getting hot at the right time, winning their fourth consecutive contest on Monday as they took down the lowly Houston Rockets. The Jazz meanwhile, are 6-4 in the last 10 games but did lose to the Golden State Warriors in their last contest.

However, they still sit just above the Phoenix Suns in first place in the Western Conference.

Trail Blazers vs Jazz Odds

Team Spread at FanDuel Moneyline Total
Portland Trail Blazers +4.5 (-110) +166 TBD
Utah Jazz -4.5 (-110) -198 TBD

Odds as of May 11th.

These two teams met on April 8th, with Utah coming out victorious in convincing fashion by a score of 122-103. In fact, they’ve won three straight against Portland while also beating them on opening night in December.

Portland in a Groove

With the playoffs nearing and the Blazers looking to secure themselves a top-six seed, the team is playing terrific basketball. Not only are they on a winning streak, but Portland has also compiled an 8-2 record in their last 10 appearances.

During that span, there have been some impressive wins, too. The Trail Blazers beat the Grizzlies, Nets, Celtics, and Lakers. The victory over LA was especially important because it meant that Terry Stotts’ squad now hold the tiebreaker over the defending champions if need be.

Monday’s victory over the Rockets saw them set a franchise record by dropping 50 points in the first quarter alone, en route to scoring 140 on the night. Damian Lillard has been clutch lately as well, averaging 33.4 points across his last five games. It’s the perfect time for Portland’s superstar guard to step up, with just 1.5 games separating them from the seventh-place Lakers.

Needless to say, this game is very important on Wednesday. It’s not going to be an easy conclusion to the regular season though, with the Suns and Nuggets after this. They’ve also played well on the road, going 21-13.

Despite having a terrific fourth-ranked offense, the Blazers have the second-worst defense in the league. They will need to tighten it up against Utah to have any chance at extending their unbeaten run.

Utah Staying Afloat Without Mitchell, Conley

Surprisingly, the Jazz have actually been just fine without backcourt duo Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley. After all, these two are a crucial piece to the offense, but others have stepped up.

Bojan Bogdanovic is averaging over 20 points per night since Conley’s injury, including a ridiculous 48-point performance against Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets last week.

Jordan Clarkson, who is their number one weapon off the bench, has also been showing out, dropping 41 vs Golden State on Monday. Ultimately, Stephen Curry’s dominance was too much for the Jazz, with the Warriors sharpshooter hitting a game-winning three with 14 seconds left in the fourth.

It was announced on Tuesday Mitchell will miss the final three games of the regular season due to his ankle injury and will be re-evaluated ahead of the postseason. As for Conley, it looks like he could be heading in a similar direction. At this point though, Quin Snyder’s team has a top-two seed locked up. They should strictly be focused on getting their two guards healthy for round one.

Despite Portland playing very well right now, Utah has been flawless on home court, posting a 31-4 record. They also haven’t lost at Vivint Arena since April 26th to the Timberwolves.

Prediction

Expect this to be a battle from downtown. You’re looking at two of the best teams in the league at shooting the basketball, with Utah third and Portland sixth in three-point percentage.

The Jazz have already won both contests against the Blazers this year but this game honestly means a lot more for the visitors here. They’re also 15-12 as ATS underdogs.

With Dame and CJ McCollum leading the way, I think you’ll see them outduel the Western Conference’s best team on Wednesday and secure a fifth straight win. Take Portland on the Moneyline.

Pick: Portland Trail Blazers ML (+166)
