  • There are 10 NBA games scheduled for Wednesday night including the Celtics vs Hawks and Warriors vs Suns
  • Luka Doncic (33.5) has the highest over/under point total on Nov. 16
  • Read below for tonight’s NBA player props and best bets

Wednesday night is a busy one for NBA fans to enjoy. LaMelo Ball and the Hornets host Tyrese Haliburton’s Pacers in one of the early tip offs, and Paolo Banchero faces off against Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. Missing Pascal Siakam and Precious Achiuwa, the Toronto Raptors welcome the Miami Heat, who have won three games in a row.

The defending Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics are in Atlanta to duel with Trae Young and the Hawks, while the impressive Cleveland Cavaliers have the unenviable task of going toe-to-toe with Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is yet again one of the favorites in the NBA MVP odds.

The night rounds out with the Knicks in Denver against Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets, and Steph Curry leading the Golden State Warriors in Phoenix.

Pick #1: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Over 29.5 Points

The Thunder are 6-8, and are 4.5-point underdogs for their clash with the Bradley Beal-less Washington Wizards. Oklahoma City are not yet ready to step out of their rebuild, especially with the quality of the 2023 draft class, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is once again proving they have a true star to build around. The former Clipper is in a group of eight players averaging 30 or more points this season, and has passed this line in nine of 13 games in 2022-23.

The Wizards are dead-last in opponent frequency from short-mid-range, an area where Gilgeous-Alexander is masterful. They do a decent job of protecting the rim, but few teams have been able to slow down Gilgeous-Alexander this season.

These two teams are relatively well-matched. If we get a close game, the Thunder have shown they are not afraid to play Gilgeous-Alexander big minutes. He has played 35 or more minutes eight times in 13 games this term, and has scored 30+ points on all eight occasions.

Books have been willing to push the points line into the thirties for other players this season, and they really should have done here. Whether it is reputation or low three-point volume keeping Gilgeous-Alexander at 29.5, there’s clearly value here.

Pick: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander over 29.5 points (-111)

Pick #2: Alperen Sengun Over 14.5 Points

The Dallas Mavericks are in the bottom five in opponent field-goal percentage at the rim and from short-mid-range attempts. Alperen Sengun is above average among bigs for frequency of shots in the restricted area and in the 88th percentile for short-mid-range efforts. Houston is considerable underdogs here, but Sengun should be able to put up numbers.

The second-year big man is shooting 75% at the rim and 51% on short-mid-range shots, both of which rank well-above league average for his position. His mix of soft touch around the basket and skilled footwork can create good shots even when the paint seems crowded.

Having to deal with Luka Doncic’s drives, foul trouble is the biggest threat to this over. Sengun has accumulated 11 fouls over his last two outings, and only three regular starters average more fouls per 100 possessions.

The Dallas defense is ninth in the NBA this season, but this line still seems on the low side for Sengun, who has passed this number in five of his last six and averages over 16 per game. If he can keep the fouling under control, the Giresun native could reach 20 points here.

Pick: Alperen Sengun over 14.5 points (-113)
