It’s not the busiest day of the NBA season on Saturday, November, 6th, but it’s a tantalizing set of games. Second overall pick Jalen Green and Nikola Jokic lead off in the 5pm ET slot before title contenders Utah and Miami go toe-to-toe in Florida. Philadelphia is putting up wins even without Tobias Harris and Ben Simmons, and they meet the Bulls for the second time this season.

Despite posting back-to-back wins, Boston is five-point underdogs for their game with the Mavericks. Two teams under increasing pressure meet in the final game of the night with the 5-4 Lakers heading north to take on the 4-5 Blazers. Los Angeles remains without LeBron James and Talen Horton-Tucker, while Anthony Davis is listed as questionable.

Odds as of Nov 6 at FanDuel

Gordon Attacks Houston Defense

The Denver offense has been underwhelming thus far. Michael Porter Jr’s struggles are well-documented, and have contributed to the Nuggets sitting in the bottom 10 in offensive rating. Their shooting has been unsustainably poor with the team currently hitting just 30% of their threes and 70% of their free throws.

With Porter not at his best and Jamal Murray unavailable for the foreseeable future, Aaron Gordon has a big role to play. Gordon’s usage has fluctuated drastically. He got just five shots up last time out, but he’s had three games with 12 or more field goal attempts.

Where Denver’s offense is clearly going to improve, it looks like the Rockets have ridden some luck defensively, too. Houston is bottom five in defending the rim and bottom 10 in giving up threes. They are also 21st in opponent free throw rate.

Gordon, like many of his teammates, isn’t hitting many open threes. When it comes to his points over, though, we don’t need him to transform into Joe Harris. Houston cannot defend the basket. That’s where Gordon is at his best – he’s in the 96th percentile in the share of his shots  at the rim, and he’s shooting 74% on such attempts.

The former Magic forward has gone over this line in six of eight games this season. He doesn’t need to become a focal point of the offense to hit this. Attack closeouts, connect with Jokic on cuts and throw down lobs, and Gordon should cruise into the teens in scoring.

  • Pick: Aaron Gordon over 11.5 points (-116)

Stay Hot, DeMar

DeMar DeRozan has posted over 28.5 points and assists in six of the last eight games. He’s coming off a 37-point outing against Philadelphia. The Sixers’ defense is still hovering around middle of the pack even without Ben Simmons, but with Tobias Harris out and Danny Green questionable, Philly faces a tough task to keep the Bulls’ offense under control.

While free throw attempts have plummeted around the league, DeRozan is at the same level he was last season. He got to the stripe 12 times against the Sixers on Wednesday. The isolation scoring numbers are every bit as impressive as they were in San Antonio, ranking among the league’s elite.

Sharing the floor with several other playmakers, the former Raptors’ assists have come and gone. He’s recorded just six in his last three games, but he’s scored 30 or more in all of those contests.

The assists are just an insurance policy here. DeRozan could easily score 29+ again. Or, if he falls just short, we could see a higher assist tally to hit the over like he produced against the Pelicans and Raptors.

  • Pick: DeMar DeRozan over 28.5 points and assists (-106)
