The NBA trade deadline is in the rearview mirror, and some of the biggest moves have made a major impact in the futures market.

The day was headlined by the James Harden trade from Brooklyn to Philadelphia, a move that caused oddsmakers to slash the Sixers’ championship price in half.

Ben Simmons is the centerpiece of the deal heading over to the Nets, and while he should be an excellent fit alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn’s title price tag still took a hit.

Odds as of February 10th at FanDuel Sportsbook

The Nets remain the favorite in the NBA Championship odds, but the gap between them and the best in the West has tightened. Brooklyn’s price was lengthened from +350 to +420 in light of the day’s events, which is just slightly ahead of Golden State and Phoenix.

Philadelphia 76ers Championship Odds Analysis

Harden’s addition to the Sixers roster, and the subsequent removal of a disgruntled Simmons, shortened Philadelphia’s title odds from +1300 to +650. Give Daryl Morey credit for not giving in to Simmons’ trade demands until he got a haul he deemed worthy in return.

Harden undoubtedly gives the 76ers a legit shot at winning it all, but let’s not overlook the red flags he brings with him. He’s now forced a trade from two teams in the past two seasons.

Despite being surrounded by elite talent everywhere he’s been, he’s not only never won a ring, but he hasn’t gotten to an NBA Finals since 2012 when he was with OKC.

He’s been hampered by injuries in the each of the past two years, and hasn’t played in over a week due to a hamstring issue.

Brooklyn Nets Championship Odds Analysis

The Nets, meanwhile, did well to turn Harden into Simmons, Curry, Andre Drummond and two first round picks, all things considered. Oddsmakers predictably lowered their championship price tag, but Simmons is a great fit for this team.

Playing alongside two elite shooters in Durant and Irving, offensive expectations will be very low for Simmons. He can focus on facilitating, rebounding and defense, similar to the role Draymond Green plays for the Warriors alongside Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

In terms of the winning the title this year, both Golden State and Phoenix appear better suited than Brooklyn and Philadelphia, despite what the odds board currently looks like. As far as the East goes, it’s not crazy to think Milwaukee should be considered the favorite despite the Nets and Sixers’ blockbuster trade.

Milwaukee Bucks Championship Odds Analysis

Speaking of the defending champs, their title odds stayed the same despite making a move of their own. They were involved in a four-team deal that saw them bring in center Serge Ibaka, while unloading impending free agent Donte DiVincenzo, as well as reserves Rodney Hood and Semi Ojeleye.

Ibaka provides insurance down the middle if Brook Lopez is unable to return from his back injury. He’s a rim protector that can stretch the floor, and is shooting 39% from three this season.

DiVincenzo was made expendable by the off-season arrival of Grayson Allen, and the superb play of Pat Connaughton. Give the Bucks credit for taking on a big tax bill in an effort to win back-to-back titles.

They grade out better in both offensive and defensive rating than Brooklyn and Philly, and boast arguably the league’s best player in Giannis Antetokounmpo, who’s currently third in the 2022 NBA MVP odds.

Dallas Mavericks Championship Odds Analysis

Perhaps the most surprising move of the day saw Dallas send Kristaps Porzingis to Washington. Porzingis struggled to fit in on the court with Luka Doncic, and will now be used as a piece to lure Bradley Beal into signing an extension with the Wizards.

In return, the Mavs received Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans, who’ve both been disappointing this season. Oddsmakers and experts alike believe this downgrades Dallas’ roster.

The Mavs championship odds were lengthened from +4200 to +4800 after the move, and they have to eat the remaining $49 million on Bertans’ $80 million dollar contract he signed a few years ago.

League insiders were shocked that Dallas was willing to take on the deal without getting a high draft pick in return, as Bertans’ shooting has taken a significant step back this season. Dinwiddie meanwhile, is a strange addition given he needs the ball in his hands.

That role belongs to Jalen Brunson, a restricted free agent at the end of the season. Unless the Mavs are looking to move on from Brunson, which would be foolish since he’s three years younger Dinwiddie is, Dinwiddie’s skillset seems redundant.

Los Angeles Lakers Championship Odds Analysis

No trade deadline day recap would be complete without checking in on the LA Lakers’ circus. The team was unable to make any moves at the deadline, mostly thanks to its dire cap situation. LA will now reportedly focus on the buyout market, and this video below tells you everything you need to know about their championship prospects.

The Lakers’ title odds were lengthened from +1800 to +3000 due to a day of inactivity, and they’re now four games below .500 after Wednesday’s loss to a shorthanded Portland. They’re 17.5 games out of first in the West, and are more likely to miss the playoffs than win the championship according to online sportsbooks.
