Boise State vs Wyoming Odds, Lines and Spread

Boise State (10-1, 6-0 Mountain West) has not lost since its season opener, a 68-58 defeat at No. 11 Houston on Nov. 27.  Wyoming (7-2, 2-1 Mountain West) had a seven-game winning streak broken in its last game, an 81-61 loss at Fresno State on Jan. 4.

Boise State has won the last five in the series. The game tips at 9 pm EST at the Arena-Auditorium and will be televised by the CBS Sports Network.

Over(t) Tendencies

Boise State has gone over the total in five straight games and six of its last eight. The Broncos are averaging 81 points a game and are 10th in NCAA Division I in scoring margin at plus-19.7 points. They are 6-3-1 against the spread and are 4-1 against the spread on the road.

Despite its quick pace, Boise State averages only 11 turnovers a game and is 34th in the KenPom rankings with a 15.7 turnover percentage. The Broncos are 33rd in KenPom in opponents’ effective field goal percentage (45.4).

Wyoming has gone over the total in six of its last eight games and pushed in its last game, the 81-61 loss at Fresno State. The Cowboys are 4-5 against the spread,  2-3 at home, and have failed to cover in three of their last four games overall. Wyoming has not played at home since Dec. 17 because a two-game series against UNLV later in December was cancelled because of covid issues in the UNLV program.

The Rich Get Richer

Arizona transfer guard Devonaire Doutrive joined Boise State for its last two victories at Air Force. He will be an immediate upgrade in terms of depth and could conceivably work his way into the starting lineup. Doutrive had 12 points, six rebounds and two steals in 39 minutes off the bench against Air Force.

Doutrive, 6-foot-5, adds athleticism and a slashing scorer to a backcourt that also includes leading scorers Derrick Alston Jr. (17.8 points per game) and Marcus Shaver Jr. (14.0 points). Shaver missed three previous games and most of a fourth because of a foot injury, but has averaged 15 points in the last five since his return. Doutrive’s arrival mitigates any potential loss of minutes there.

Another Arizona transfer, 6-foot-8 forward Emmanuel Akot, is averaging 9.0 points and 3.7 rebounds off the bench. His 3-pointer with 12.7 seconds remaining was the deciding shot in a 74-70 victory over BYU on Dec. 9. As high school seniors, Akot (88) and Doutrive (85) received the highest ESPN scouting grades among players who have ever played at Boise State.

Wyoming Big Men Down

Wyoming 6-foot-10 forward Hunter Thompson is second in the Mountain West and 29th in NCAA Division I with an effective field goal percentage of 69.5, but he is the one of the few healthy Cowboys’ big men . 6-10 reserve Eoin Nelson suffered a left leg injury before the Cowboys’ series against Fresno State last week and is expected to miss a significant amount of time. Nelson is averaging 3.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in 11.1 minutes per game this season.
