UNC Wilmington Is Firing on All Cylinders
The Seahawks handed their state rival Campbell Fighting Camels a 78-59 beating Monday Afternoon the last time they took the floor. UNC Wilmington completely shut down Campbells’ top scorer, Jordan Whitfield holding him to his lowest scoring output of the season. Only one Fighting Camel reached double digits in scoring and as a team they only shot 41% from the field.

The Seahawks were led in scoring by Mike Okauru who poured in 17 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. UNC Wilmington’s leading scorer for the season, Jaylen Sims, flirted with a double double posting 15 points and nine rebounds. Joe Pridgen recorded his second consecutive double-double and third in four games with 14 points and 13 boards.
Delaware State Is Battle Tested
Delaware State has lost all three of their games this season by at least 26 points. In their defense, all three games have been on the road and two of them have been against ACC teams, Wake Forest and Georgia Tech. They have had four of their games against smaller schools canceled or postponed due to Covid-19 concerns.

In their last outing against Georgia Tech, the Hornets hung around in the first half covering the first half line. Even though they were boat raced in the second half, Myles Carter showed some fight scoring 17 points and grabbing five rebounds. In the end, Delaware State just didn’t have the horses to hang with even a bottom feeder ACC school like Georgia Tech. They allowed the Yellow Jackets to shoot 55% from the floor which won’t get it done against anyone.
Best Betting Angle
UNC Wilmington coach Takayo Siddle has used six different starting lineups in eight games this season. Despite the lineup changes, the team always plays fast and aggressive. This has led to the Seahawks getting to the free throw line as they score 23.7% of their points from the charity stripe.
This is a matchup that benefits the Seahawks since Delaware State is currently eighth in adjusted tempo according to KenPom. The Hornets average less than 16 seconds per possession on offense or defense so this should be an up and down game. This game is a pace up spot for UNC Wilmington although they are not exactly slow themselves at 70.6 possessions per game.
This one will come down to defense or the lack thereof. Delaware State hasn’t show the ability to stop anyone this season en route to giving up 102.3 points per game. No team in the nation gives up more points on a per game basis. On the flip side, UNC Wilmington is ranked 241 out of 357 schools in defensive efficiency so the Hornets may be able to score more than they have in their previous three games this season. A fast-paced, high-scoring should be expected when these two teams tip off on Wednesday afternoon.
Pick: Over 154.5 (-118)
