The Yellow Jackets are also on the rebound after seeing a five-game win streak halted by a narrow 64-62 loss to No. 13 Virginia.

Duke Looks To Snap Three-Game Slide

A current three-game losing streak is the latest bump in the road for Duke this season. The Blue Devils had to endure a rash of cancellations and postponements early on, which impacted six of their first 11 contests. And now that the team has started to see regular action, they have been snake bitten on the hardwood, with each of their three recent defeats coming by seven or fewer points, capped by last weekend’s 70-65 loss in Louisville as 2.5-point underdogs.

However, those narrow margins have done little to buoy the Blue Devils at the sportsbooks. Indeed, Duke has been a terrible bet this season, failing to cover in each of their past five outings, and going 1-9 ATS so far this season. The club has also lost outright on four occasions while favored, dumping their overall record to a middling 5-5.

Blue Devils Enduring Dip In Production

Generating offense has been a real problem for Duke. The second-highest scoring team in the nation last season, the Blue Devils currently rank 142nd while tallying 73.6 points per game, a number which they have failed to reach during their three-game slide. However, the club has managed to hang tough in the Kenpom ratings, where they remain pegged at No. 33 overall, and 32nd in adjusted offensive efficiency.

The Blue Devils have also benefited from Matthew Hurt’s breakthrough season. The sophomore big man leads the club with 19.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, and has topped 20 points in three of his past four outings. Hurt was also steady in his lone previous appearance vs Georgia Tech. In addition to draining three 3-pointers and a total of 11 points, Hurt recorded six rebounds in a 73-64 road win over the Yellow Jackets in January 2020.

Yellow Jackets Hold Their Own

The Yellow Jackets travel to Durham looking to bounce back from last Friday’s loss to the Cavaliers as 8.5-point underdogs. Overall, Georgia Tech has covered in four straight outings, including recent outright victories over North Carolina and No. 20 Clemson as home underdogs. The club has also managed to maintain its winning ways despite seeing its fair share of schedule disruptions, with four dates getting postponed or cancelled during their current 7-1 run, forcing the club to remain idle for a lengthy 17-day stretch prior to last week’s decisive 83-65 win over the Tigers.

However, the Yellow Jackets have struggled on the road, losing outright in their past two away contests, and going 8-16 SU in their past 24 overall. But of greater concern is Georgia Tech’s lengthy track record of futility against Duke. The Yellow Jackets currently ride a 13-game losing streak against the Blue Devils, and have also earned just one SU win in 18 regular season road dates with Duke since 1996.

‘Jackets Poised To End Losing Streak vs Duke?

While that dismal record and the team’s recent road struggles are cause for concern, it is tough to look past the Yellow Jackets’ recent solid performances against conference rivals. Victories over the Tar Heels and Tigers, along with a heartbreaking loss at the buzzer to Virginia, have given this club a shot in the arm, which may be just enough to get the job done against the slumping Blue Devils.

The Pick: Yellow Jackets +4.5 (-105)
