Huskies vs Jackrabbits Betting Trends

Tuesday night’s matchup marks the first meeting between these two teams since 2011, and just their second all-time head-to-head date. The Jackrabbits romped to a 92-73 victory as 12.5-point road underdogs in that clash, and have been equally successful at the sportsbooks in the early going of the current campaign.

Currently sporting a 5-1 SU record, South Dakota State has claimed victory by double-digit margins in each of their five wins to date, capped by a decisive 102-75 win in Nevada on Monday as 2.5-point chalk. The Huskies hit the road for the first time this season after eking out a 77-74 win over George Mason as 4.5-point underdogs, ending a four-game ATS losing streak to open the season. That marked the team’s first outright win as underdogs in six outings, but their fourth straight ATS victory while sporting positive odds.

Washington Huskies Outlook

In addition to being an early-season disappointment at the sportsbooks, the Huskies have consistently frustrated loyal fans during a middling 3-2 SU start. The team was embarrassed in a 71-64 loss to Northern Illinois while perched as heavy 19.5-point chalk in their season opener, converting just 26.7% of field goal attempts and going just 3-for-18 from beyond the arc.

The Huskies showed signs of turning things around in a subsequent 73-62 win over Northern Arizona, and also outlasted Texas Southern in a 72-65 win. However, the team’s shooting woes re-emerged in last week’s 77-72 loss to Wyoming.

The Huskies’ scoring struggles are reflected in the KenPom ratings, where they are pegged at No. 189 in adjusted offence and No. 135 overall. Things are unlikely to get any easier as Washington now looks to overcome road woes that plagued them throughout last season, when they compiled an abysmal 1-11 SU away record while averaging just 64.9 points per game.

The upside for the Huskies has been the steady performance of leading scorer Terrell Brown Jr. A senior guard, who transferred in after playing last season in Arizona, Brown leads the squad with 21.2 points per game, as well as in assists and steals, capped by a 23-point, eight-rebound performance in Monday’s win over George Mason.

South Dakota State Jackrabbits Outlook

The Jackrabbits aim to establish their first five-game SU win streak since last January when they hit the floor on Tuesday night. The team has built their early-season success on fast starts, taking double-digit leads into the dressing room at the half on four occasions during a torrid 5-1 SU start. Now averaging 90.7, South Dakota State enters Tuesday’s action ranked 10th in the nation in points scored per game, vaulting them to No. 18 in adjusted offence at KenPom.

Indeed, the Jackrabbits offence has been frighteningly efficient, converting on 51.6% of field goal attempts this season, and on 57.8% during their current 4-0 SU run. The team has also dominated under the basket under their past two contests, averaging over 40 total rebounds over their past two games including over 30 defensive rebounds per game.

Contributions have come from up and down the lineup. Sophomore guard Noah Freidel leads the attack with 19.5 points per game, while fellow sophomore Baylor Scheierman has recorded double-doubles in five of six appearances to date, capped by an 18-point, 10-rebound performance in Monday’s rout of the Wolf Pack. Senior big man Douglas Wilson has also been a steady contributor, leading the team in scoring on three occasions to date, including a game-high 24 points on Monday night.

The Pick: Jackrabbits -7.5 (-105); OVER 158 (-110)
