Perennial champion Alabama is favored to win a conference-best 11 games. The Crimson Tide have won four of the last five SEC titles.

Rebels Of A Lost Cause?

Ole Miss was 5-7 overall last season and a dismal 1-7 within the conference. Entering his third season, head coach Matt Luke handed the keys to his offense to Rich Rodriguez. As anyone at Michigan could tell you,  expecting Rich-Rod to fix what ails you will only serve to make you long for the problems you used to think you had.

Rodriguez is installing the same run-based spread offense he operated while a head coach at West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona. Under center will be quarterback Matt Corral, a redshirt freshman.

Did we mention that all four Ole Miss scholarship QBs are freshmen? Or that all three 2018 starters at receiver, including the sensational DK Metcalf, graduated? Oh, and only two starters return along the offensive line.

Defensively, the Rebels are switching to a 3-4 after allowing 221.8 rushing yards per game in 2018.

Breaking down the schedule, pencil in road losses at Memphis, Alabama, Missouri, Auburn and in the Egg Bowl at Mississippi State. Home losses should be suffered at the hands of Texas A&M and LSU.

Of their five other games, expect home wins over Southeast Louisiana, Arkansas and New Mexico State. It really comes down to two other home dates with Vanderbilt and California, which can be classified as toss-ups.

Let’s call it a 50-50 split.

Pick: Ole Miss Rebels under 5 wins (-115)

Best SEC Over Bets

Start with Alabama. Seriously. The Crimson Tide could run the table. If they get by trap games at Texas A&M and home to LSU, it all comes down to the regular-season finale at arch-rival Auburn.

LSU’s season will be determined by four games – road contests at Texas, Mississippi State and Alabama and a home date with Florida. If the Tigers take two of those, 10 wins is a real possibility.

Coming off their first bowl game victory since 2008, the Kentucky Wildcats are only staring at two certain setbacks – at Georgia and home to Florida. Seven other games should be wins, while the other three could go either way.

Pick: Kentucky Wildcats over 6.5 wins (-140)

Best SEC Under Picks

Georgia plays Florida in Jacksonville, is at Auburn, and gets Notre Dame at home. Do you really think that the Bulldogs will lose just one game this season?

At the bottom of the SEC, two tailenders might be even worse than everyone thinks. Beyond non-conference contests against Northern Illinois, UNLV and East Tennessee State, Vanderbilt will be hard-pressed to win any other games.

Likewise, Arkansas looks to be in a world of trouble. The Razorbacks get Texas A&M in Arlington, at Kentucky,

Auburn at home and Alabama in a four-game stretch.

Five wins for Arkansas is possible. Six looks to be unattainable.

Pick: Arkansas Razorbacks under 6 wins (-350)
