As 22-point favorites, the Crimson Tide figure to sail past Auburn on Saturday afternoon from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Alabama has won six of the previous eight “Iron Bowls” including last year’s game which featured an exciting 24-22 overtime finish.

Coincidentally, the Crimson Tide are 5-6 ATS, and so are the Tigers. The last time Alabama covered was October 22nd against Ole Miss. It has been a while.

Alabama Is a Big Home Favorite

Alabama and Nick Saban believe they have a shot to get to a good New Year’s Day Bowl but a conference title and college football playoff spot is off the table. Oddsmakers see the Crimson Tide out of the SEC Conference odds, where Georgia sits at -750 while LSU, their conference championship opponent, sits at +550.

When it comes to the National Championship odds, Alabama is also out of that as well. It has been an unexpected turn of events for Nick Saban, Bryce Young, and the Crimson Tide.

Last week’s game against Austin Peay saw Alabama cruise to a 34-0 win. However, the fourth quarter was kind of a dud as the Crimson Tide failed to cover the 44-point spread. It seemed Alabama went into cruise control.

The Crimson Tide and their motivations will be interesting this week. There is no SEC title to play for and no college football playoff spot on the horizon. Can they get it together to beat an eager Auburn team convincingly? The Tigers are motivated and want to make a bowl for their interim coach.

With the Alabama game at home on Saturday, does Alabama just take out their frustrations on Auburn or can the Tigers keep it close?

Can Auburn Win and Make a Bowl?

Interim Head coach Cadillac Williams has to feel his team has a bit of a chance against Alabama on Saturday. Despite this game being on the road, Auburn is finally playing better. The Tigers have won two of their three games under Williams and were in the Mississippi State game till the bitter end. Can the offense and defense come together enough this upcoming weekend?

Honestly, Auburn will have to run the ball against Alabama then set up the pass. Look at how teams have attacked the Crimson Tide defense this season. Yes, the Tigers played an FCS school in Western Kentucky, but the blueprint was very clear. This Auburn team was better suited to run first and pass later.

Now, they are getting results that some pundits expected earlier in the season. This was an Auburn team that should have won six or seven games with ease. They need an upset win just to get to six.

Consequently, some may think 22 points is too high but “way too early” numbers were in the 16 to 18-point range. Therefore, an “adjustment” was needed based partially on past home Alabama meetings (won by 29 in 2020 and 31 in 2018).

Can Auburn keep the score down and let the rivalry play into the heads of Alabama a bit? The Crimson Tide do have a ten-win season to play and an Iron Bowl, but little else.

Auburn vs Alabama Expected Line Movement and Early Prediction

So, the early ATS money is split and bettors, moneyline wise, are actually on the Crimson Tide side. There is a chance this line moves a couple points toward the road team after the second half the Tigers had last week. Finally, expect Auburn to cover late on Saturday.
