Alabama Betting Trends

Alabama lost for the first time this season last week, falling 52-49 in a thrilling contest in Knoxville. The Crimson Tide saw their 15-game winning streak against the Volunteers snapped in the loss and will have to have a short memory with another SEC clash on the horizon.

Quarterback Bryce Young returned from a shoulder injury to lead the Tide against Tennessee. Young showed no sign of any rust, completing 35 passes for 455 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, his performance fell by the wayside as the Crimson Tide missed a late field goal and were undone in the final minute.

Star pass-rusher Will Anderson Jr. and the Crimson Tide defense will need to step up their game on Saturday. Thankfully, the betting trends all favor the Tide. The last time Alabama lost two consecutive games was way back in 2013, when Alabama lost the Iron Bowl and then a game to Oklahoma. Moreover, the Crimson Tide are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games played following a loss.

Mississippi State Betting Trends

Enter Will Rogers and Mike Leach’s Mississippi State Air Raid offense. The junior pivot will lead an offense more than capable of capitalizing on a lackadaisical Crimson Tide secondary on Saturday. Rogers currently sits third in the nation with 2,324 passing yards and 23 touchdowns so far this year. Should the Alabama defensive backs continue to make a slew of mental errors on the back end, Mississippi State is more than capable of making this game interesting.

Rogers broke Dak Prescott’s single-season yardage and touchdown records just last year and leads an even more explosive attack into Tuscaloosa this weekend.

On the other side of the ball, Mississippi State will be looking to get their rushing defense right before taking on a powerful Crimson Tide team. The Bulldogs had no answer for Chris Rodriguez Jr. on Saturday, as the Wildcats running back went buck wild. Rodriguez Jr. finished with 196 rushing yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead his team to victory. If Alabama can run the ball like that in Tuscaloosa, Mississippi State is in big trouble.

Alabama vs Mississippi State Pick

A lot of teams have trouble winning in Tuscaloosa, and Mississippi State is no exception. Alabama has made Bryant-Denny Stadium their fortress in the Nick Saban era, and another loss would be stunning. Alabama has the power to run the ball down the Bulldogs’ throat. That could prove to be the silver lining in this one, as the more the two teams run the football, the more the clock will be moving.

Rather than focusing on a four-score spread and risking a late back door cover, let’s take a look at the total. The under has hit in 5 of the last 7 games these teams have played in Alabama. Additionally, the under is 17-4-1 in the last 22 Alabama vs Mississippi State meetings overall. Roll with the under here and hope the Tide don’t run up the score.

Pick: Alabama vs Mississippi State UNDER 61.5 (-110)
