The Week 4 college football slate features just three matchups between ranked teams. The first takes place out of the ACC, as #5 Clemson (3-0, 1-0 ACC) visits #21 Wake Forest (3-0, 0-0 ACC).
Both programs are off to perfect starts, although neither has faced an opponent anywhere close to as talented as the one they’ll meet on Saturday.
The Demon Deacons survived a serious scare from Liberty last week, after opening with a pair of 20+ point victories. The Tigers on the other hand, have won each of their three games by at least 23 points, which partly explains their status as road chalk in the college football odds.

Clemson Tigers Betting Analysis
The Tigers overcame their second slow start in three weeks last Saturday, pouring it on Louisiana Tech late to walk away with a 48-20 victory. DJ Uiagalelei threw two touchdowns for the second straight game, and enters play on Saturday with a 5-to-1 TD-to-INT rate.
He’s completed 65% of his throws so far, but while it’s a vast improvement from last year, there are still plenty of Clemson fans calling for freshman Cade Klubnik under center. The Tigers, a top-four National Championship odds contender, rank 10th in points per game, but just 53rd in yards per play and 72nd in yards per pass. Despite highlight grabs like the one below, Clemson’s receivers have had difficulty creating separation at times, which will come back to bite them against stronger opposition.

Running the ball, on the other hand, has been a smash. Will Shipley ripped off a career-high 139 rushing yards last week, and scored twice for the third straight game. He’s the first Tiger ever with multiple TDs in the first three games of a season.
Clemson averages 200 yards on the ground per contest, and should find success against a Wake Forest program that ranks 70th in rush defense.

On the other side of the ball, the Tigers’ defense has been strong, but perhaps not quite as good as advertised. They’re allowing only 15 points per game and 4.3 yards per play, but they’ve yet to face a dynamic offense. That will change this week, as the Demon Deacons can put up plenty of points quickly.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Betting Analysis
Wake Forest needed to stop a two-point conversion by Liberty in the final minute last week to run their record to 3-0. Offensively, their run game faltered like it has in previous weeks, but QB Sam Hartman more than made up for it.
The junior pivot threw for 325 yards and three scores, breaking the record for most passing yards in program history along the way. The Demon Deacons enter play averaging 41 points per game and nearly nine yards per throw, which both rank in the top-22 in the country. Their receiving corps is deep and talented, with three players already recording at least 12 catches.

On the other side of the ball, Wake Forest’s defense has shown cracks in the armor. They’re yielding 31 points per contest, despite playing Liberty, Vanderbilt and VMI. The suspect defensive play in combination with a potent offense has led to three high-scoring games for the Demon Deacons, and another one is likely on deck.
Clemson vs Wake Forest Pick
All three of Wake Forest’s games have produced at least 54 points, with their only two contests against FBS opponents producing 70 and 73 points. Their defense isn’t strong enough to stop the Clemson attack, and their offense should be able to challenge the Tigers enough to help get this game over the number.
These two teams played to a 48-27 Clemson victory in 2021, while the Tigers are averaging 50 points per game versus the Demon Deacons in their last four meetings.
