Florida vs Oklahoma Props – Cotton Bowl Best Player Prop Bets

Dallas has been a home away from home for the Oklahoma Sooners, who just won their 14th Big 12 Championship at AT&T Stadium against Iowa State on December 19.  OU returns tonight to take on a depleted Florida Gators team, that saw many of its best players opt out of this game following a heart-breaking 52-46 loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship.

The Sooners enter as 6.5-point favorites, and fortunately for OU head coach Lincoln Riley, many of his top playmakers come from a young core of talent. The weather outside will be cold and rainy, but on the turf indoors at AT&T, the Sooners should be able to put up some big numbers, and that starts with redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler.

Will OU’s Rattler Strike?

The former five-star quarterback has had a couple of clunky games this season, but has levelled out and been much better over the second half of the season.

Rattler has completed 70-percent-or-better of his passes in three of his last five games, and in his most recent game against the Cyclones, completed nearly 65-percent of his throws for 272 yards and a touchdown.

Florida has been great this season, but not because of its consistency on defense. The Gators were in the bottom quarter of teams this season in plays of at least 10 and at least 40 yards-or-more from scrimmage.

Rattler hasn’t stuffed the box score with huge yardage totals through the air, and has only thrown for more than 300 yards in one of his last five games. In fact, he’s only thrown 30 passes-or-more in two of his last six.

As he’s become more efficient, his totals have been less gaudy, but three touchdown passes against Florida’s defense in fewer than 23 completions is a distinct possibility tonight.

Looking Elsewhere

Both of Oklahoma’s top wide receivers, Theo Wease and Marvin Mims are from from the Dallas area – Mims played his home games in high school at The Frisco Star; the Cowboys’ training facility. The Sooners’ third-best available, Charleston Rambo, is also from nearby Cedar Hill.

Tight end Austin Stogner is not expected to play after sustaining an ankle injury late in the season. Big-play threat Jadon Haselwood did not travel with the team as he continues to ease his way back to full strength following an ACL tear in the spring.

Mims is Running Hot

Mims grades out as the top Sooners receiver this season, but has far fewer snaps over the last five games than Wease. Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam has been a bright spot for an otherwise pedestrian defense, but will likely find himself matched up with Wease for most of the game.

In his last four outings, Wease has only gone over 55 yards receiving once, while Mims is coming off a seven-catch, 101-yard performance against Iowa State. Wease is the bigger receiver, and Elam should find himself matched up on him more frequently as a physical necessity. With so many other top pass-catchers not available in this one for Oklahoma, Mims appears to be the better option between the two.

Finally, Sooners running back Rhamondre Stevenson should feast in this one. After overtaking the lead role from T.J. Pledger since the end of October, he has averaged nearly six yards per attempt and rolled for 97 yards against the Cyclones last time out.

Florida has been ultra-porous defending the run, and has allowed at least 159 yards in three of their last four games. LSU ran the ball 50 times on the Gators on December 12th, and Alabama ran it 40 times in the SEC Championship.
