The Heisman race is down to LSU’s Jayden Daniels and Oregon’s Bo Nix, according to the oddsmakers in Las Vegas. The updated Heisman odds following Week 12 of the NCAAF season list the two star quarterbacks as the two clear favorites.

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix is being given the edge heading into Week 13 after he torched Arizona State on Saturday. But LSU’s Jayden Daniels is hot on his heels after an incredible showing against Georgia State.

Let’s take a look at the latest Heisman odds, and determine which player is the better bet.

Heisman Odds

Player (Team) Odds
Bo Nix (QB, Oregon) +110
Jayden Daniels (QB, LSU) +140
Michael Penix Jr. (QB, Washington) +500
Carson Beck (QB, Georgia) +3300
Marvin Harrison Jr. (WR, Ohio State) +3300
Jalen Milroe (QB, Alabama) +12000

Jayden Daniels is the second betting favorite at +140 odds, meaning he has 42% implied win probability.

Jayden Daniels Heisman Odds

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels is the clear public favorite to win the Heisman, meaning most college football fans feel he’s most deserving of the MVP trophy. Sportsbooks have been steadily adjusting to the market, and they gave Daniels’ odds another boost Saturday.

FanDuel shortened Daniels’ Heisman odds from +370 to +140 after the LSU QB put on another show in college football Week 12. Daniels had a historic night vs Georgia State, throwing for 509 yards and accounting for eight total touchdowns in a 65-14 victory.

This type of performance is impressive no matter the opponent, but Georgia State being a Sun Belt program is likely why Daniels didn’t see an even bigger odds boost. You also have to consider that Daniels only has one regular-season game remaining with LSU being eliminated from SEC Title contention.

When you look at Jayden Daniels’ numbers on the season, it’s hard to make an argument for why he doesn’t deserve the trophy. Through five games, Daniels has thrown for 3,164 yards and 30 touchdowns with four picks, while rushing for 918 yards and an additional eight scores.

What oddsmakers are clearly factoring into the odds is the fact that Daniels has three losses, while his main competitor Bo Nix could lead his team to a conference title. The Heisman is supposed to go to the “most outstanding player”, but only four players since 1988 have won the MVP trophy while playing on a three-loss team.

Bo Nix Heisman Odds

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix became the Heisman favorite after Week 11, and he held on to that spot after torching Arizona State in Week 12. Nix threw for 404 yards and a career-high six touchdowns in the first half to power the Ducks to a 49-13 road victory.

Nix entered the day with -110 odds to win the Heisman, but his odds actually lengthened to +110 by the end of the night, primarily because Daniels played so well in his respective game. Nix will have another chance to boost his Heisman case next week when he faces a solid Oregon State team.

On the season, Nix has thrown for 3,135 yards and 29 touchdowns with two interceptions, while leading the country with a 78% completion percentage. He’s also been a factor on the ground with 121 rushing yards and five scores.

Daniels vs Nix Heisman Best Bet

So, is it going to be Jayden Daniels or Bo Nix for the Heisman? The stats clearly favor Daniels, but we can’t help but think voters will lean towards Nix if he leads the Ducks to the Pac-12 conference title and a potential CFP berth.

Jayden Daniels vs Bo Nix Stats

Jayden Daniels
VS
Bo Nix
8-3 Record 10-1
3,164 Passing Yards 3,135
30 Passing Touchdowns 29
4 Interceptions 2
71.4% Completion Percentage 77.0%
202.1 Passer Rating 184.7
918 Rushing Yards 121
8 Rushing Touchdowns 5

*Stats last updated before Saturday’s games

Nix has been more accurate with the football and has almost thrown for as many yards as Daniels, but the LSU pivot clearly has Nix beat when it comes to the ground game. The question becomes how much emphasis the voters place on that stat if Nix leads the Ducks to glory with his arm.

If you have faith that the voters will reward the true most “outstanding” player in the country, put your money on Daniels. But history suggests if Nix has two strong performances to close out the year and wins the Pac-12 title, he’ll likely win the award.
