Marshall is a 10-point favorite here with steep moneyline odds of -385. UConn comes back at college football odds of +300. The total is set at a relatively low 41 points.

The Huskies have thrived against the spread this year, going 9-3. The Thundering Herd on the other hand is just 3-6 as an ATS favorite.

Marshall Relying on Defense

It was a solid first season for Marshall in the Sun Belt Conference, finishing in third place behind Coastal Carolina and James Madison. Charles Huff’s squad definitely relies on their defense pretty heavily, who allowed just 16.2 points per game. Most notably, they were unstoppable against the run, conceding a mere 88.8 rushing yards per contest. That ranked fifth in the entire country.

Offensively, both Cam Fancher and Henry Colombi shared snaps at quarterback but neither was very productive. Instead, running back Khalan Laborn proved to be the Thundering Herd’s most potent weapon, rushing for 1,423 yards and 16 touchdowns. He led the conference in scores. Laborn ran for more than 100 yards on nine occasions. Expect him to have the ball a lot against a UConn run defense that isn’t great by any means.

Resilient Year For UConn

The Huskies endured a brutal start to the campaign, losing four of their first five games, including a 59-0 shellacking at the hands of Michigan. To make matters worse, they lost QB1 Ta’Quan Roberson to a torn ACL in Week 1. But, UConn ultimately bounced back, winning five of their final seven outings and doing just enough to make a bowl game.

QB Zion Turner is certainly to thank for their success. He’s done a fine job in place of Roberson, serving as a true dual threat. Turner threw for 1,242 yards, nine touchdowns, and a rough seven interceptions, but he also ran for 237 yards. Versus a stout Marshall defense, however, the signal-caller will undoubtedly have his work cut out for him.

On the defensive side of the ball for the Huskies, all eyes are on linebacker Jackson Mitchell. He’s the one player who is always capable of a big tackle. He’ll be focused on stopping Laborn.

Marshall vs UConn Prediction

Both of these programs generate most of their offense on the ground, which is why the under is absolutely worth a pick here. Also, you can’t look past how clutch UConn has been ATS. Then if you take into consideration Marshall’s struggles as a favorite, it’s a no-brainer.

Pick: UConn +10 (-110), Under 41 Points (-110)
