The lookahead line for this game listed Texas A&M as an eight-point favorite. But the line took a dramatic downward move toward Miami after A&M’s home loss to Appalachian State on Saturday. Now the Aggies are just 4.5-point home chalk against the Hurricanes in Week 3.

A&M is 1-1 SU, 0-2 ATS and Miami is 2-0, 1-1. The Hurricanes are 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS in their last five as road underdogs since 2019. A&M is 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS in their last five as a home favorite, although both of those ATS losses came this season. The Hurricanes have a 37.3 win probability, according to the moneyline.

Texas A&M Struggling

The Aggies struggled on both sides of the ball in a 17-14 home loss to Appalachian State, a team that they gave a $1.5 million guarantee to schedule.

Not only were the Aggies dominated at the line of scrimmage by the Mountaineers while losing their third straight game to an FBS team, they also may have found themselves with a quarterback situation after Haynes King had limited success.

The Mountaineers more than doubled Texas A&M in time of possession — 41:30 to 18:30 — and ran 82 plays to the Aggies’ 38. A&M had only 186 yards of total offense, its worst showing since it had 169 yards in a 50-7 loss to LSU on Nov. 30, 2019, and one of its touchdowns was on Devon Achane’s 95-yard kickoff return.

The Aggies lost two fumbles, and King completed 13 of 20 passes for 97 yards. King had a big day with 364 yards passing, three touchdowns and two interceptions in a 31-0 victory over FCS Sam Houston State in the season-opener after winning the job over LSU transfer Max Johnson and freshman Conner Weigman.

His Heisman odds had shortened to +6500 after Week 1, but then faded to +11000 after the stunning loss to App State.

Miami Comes on Late

The Hurricanes scored the final 27 points to beat Southern Miss on Saturday, when Tyler Van Dyke passed for 263 yards and a flea-flicker touchdown and Henry Parrish had 109 of of Hurricanes’ 174 rushing yards while adding a touchdown.

All-ACC candidate Van Dyke has completed 73.3 percent of his passses for 446 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the first two games, but the Hurricanes’ offensive line showed holes against Southern Miss.

Van Dyke was sacked four times, three in the first half, and the Golden Eagles had eight tackles for loss.

Miami’s national championship odds have stayed steady at +10000 after taking care of business in Weeks 1 and 2.

Miami vs Texas A&M Injury Update

Hurricanes defensive end Akeem Mesidor suffered a lower body injury against Bethune-Cookman and did not play against Southern Miss. His status for A&M is not known. Mesidor had four tackles, a sack and a pass break-up in the opener.

Hurricanes vs Aggies Expected Line Movement

Both of these teams enter this game with underwhelming numbers. The Aggies are 0-2 ATS this season and were manhandled by Appalachian State, which scored on 62- and 53-yard drives in the second half and chewed up 15:37 in so doing. A&M’s only two victories in its last five games are against the FCS teams Jimbo Fisher likes to schedule.

New Miami coach Mario Cristobal, a former two-time national champion as a player with the Hurricanes, has the team moving in the right direction, although this spot has not been good in recent years. Miami is 0-3 SU and has been outscored 148-56 the last times it has played a game in which both teams were ranked. The money should move back towards the SEC team.
