Missouri was an awful 3-9 against the spread last season. Their opponents fared much better as Kansas State went 7-5-1 on the year. Missouri leads the all-time series between these programs 60-32, with their last matchup being a Kansas State victory all the way back in 2011. There appears to be some SEC favoritism built into this line, don’t let that scare you from betting on Kansas State.

Missouri Building New Identity

Missouri has been mired in a state of mediocrity ever since losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship back in 2014.

The Tigers made a lot of progress in their season-open victory, easily dispatching Louisiana Tech. Missouri’s defense led the way, allowing only eight rushing yards in the game. The Tigers also came up with a trio of first-half interceptions, including one that Joseph Charleston returned for a touchdown. It was the first time Missouri has picked off three passes in a half since 1982, so that feat is unlikely to be repeated on Saturday. That being said, the Tigers also gave up a number of splash plays to Tech’s Air Raid offense, which they will have to clean up to have any hope of an upset in this one.

Missouri’s offense got rolling on the back of five-star recruit Luther Burden III. The freshman delivered on the hype, taking a swing pass and making two defenders miss for his first score, then a direct snap and running in another. Burden will have to be his explosive best for Missouri to take down Kansas State.

Kansas State Looks for Statement Victory

On it’s way to a season-opening shutout of South Dakota, Kansas State raced out to a 20-point first-quarter lead and never looked back. The Wildcats will look to keep their foot on the gas pedal on Saturday afternoon.

Led by All-American running back Deuce Vaughn, Kansas State ran all over South Dakota last weekend. Ending the game with 297 rushing yards.  Vaughn turned 18 carries into 126 yards and a touchdown in just three quarters worth of work. Should the future NFL draft pick be able to replicate last week’s performance, Missouri will struggle to stay in this ball game. The Wildcats piled up 393 yards of total offense, and looked dangerous on every snap last week.

On the other side of the ball, the Wildcats looked even stronger. This unit had little trouble clamping down on South Dakota’s offense, holding them to just 139 passing yards, along with 4 sacks. The defense came up with a goal-line stand in the final minute of the contest to preserve the shutout.

Missouri vs Kansas State Pick

Unless freshman receiver Luther Burden III is able to break away, Missouri may struggle to move the football against the Kansas State defense. Similarly, Deuce Vaughn and the Kansas State rushing attack should be unstoppable in this one. It’s hard to fathom how the Tigers will keep this football game close. Hammer the Kansas State spread before the line moves further in their favor.
