Indiana In Unfamiliar Territory

Indiana has won its first four Big Ten games for the first time in 33 years. Your opinion of the Hoosiers likely boils down to whether you’re a glass half full or glass half empty kind of person. They have the 17th best defense in the country and have four wins, including two against teams that were ranked at the time. The flip side? Penn State was ranked but is now 0-4 and the Michigan was ranked and are now 0-3. In total, the four opponents have a combined 3-13 record. Indiana has been impressive, the competition has not.

Most recently that stout Hoosier defense put up a shutout against Michigan State. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns. He now has 11 total touchdowns and three interceptions on the season. He’s proven capable of leading Indiana to wins against middle to bottom tier opponents but Ohio State will undoubtedly be his biggest test to date.

Ohio State Returns After Week Off

Ohio State had their Week 11 game against Maryland cancelled due to Covid-19 issues surrounding the Terrapin program. The good news is they’ll be healthy entering the contest given the added rest. The bad news is a top program like the Buckeyes would prefer to have every opportunity possible to impress the College Football Playoff voters. Many surrounding the program lobbied for a replacement opponent but Big Ten rules prohibited them from scheduling another game. In the end, it essentially ends up being an early season bye week.

Ohio State relies heavily on their passing game. Heisman Trophy candidate Justin Fields has 11 incompletions on the year and 11 touchdowns. He has yet to turn the ball over through three games. Fields two favorite targets are Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave. They have combined for 42 receptions and 636 yards in the Buckeyes three victories. Ohio State has a number of top recruits jostling for position to be the third option through the air but as it stands Wilson and Olave stand out as the most reliable weapons for Fields to target.

Expect Line Movement Before Kickoff

This game will garner a lot of attention both for being a matchup of top ten teams and also because of the Big Noon Kickoff on Fox. When the pre-game show focuses on Indiana’s strength of schedule, the public will likely fade the Hoosiers. Ohio State won this game by 41 points last year and while this game will likely be much closer, many will bet it expecting the Buckeyes to win with ease.
