The road towards an undefeated season continues in Week 6 for #7 Oklahoma State (4-0, 1-0 Big 12). The Cowboys earned a statement win in Week 5, knocking off then #16 ranked Baylor on the road, in a rematch of the 2021 Big 12 Championship Game.

Life won’t get any easier on Saturday, as Oklahoma State returns home to face offensive powerhouse Texas Tech (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) in a prime letdown spot.

Oddsmakers, however, are confident the Cowboys will avoid a hangover after their signature win. They’re projecting a comfortable victory, after making the home team a big favorite in the college football odds.

Oklahoma State Betting Analysis

After steamrolling the competition in non-conference play to the tune of 155 points for and only 68 against, the Cowboys exacted some revenge on the Bears last week. They jumped out to a 23-3 lead, and held off a charging Baylor for a comfortable 11-point win.

Spencer Sanders threw for 181 yards and a TD, while also rushing for 75 yards and a score. The longshot Heisman Trophy odds candidate, who struggled against Baylor last season throwing 7 picks, committed just one turnover and completed 69% of his passes.

Sanders’ receiving corps made a handful of spectacular catches, while freshman Jaden Nixon blew the game open to start the second half with a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown.

Defensively, Oklahoma State gave up over 450 yards of offense, but were strong in the trenches and forced timely turnovers. They picked off two Blake Shapen passes, and sacked him twice. The Cowboys recorded seven tackles for loss and held Baylor to only 3.7 yards per carry.

Texas Tech Betting Analysis

The Red Raiders are off to a 3-2 start, but has faced a daunting schedule. This will be their fifth straight game versus a ranked opponent, and they already own victories over Texas and Houston.

Texas Tech is fresh off a 37-28 loss to #20 Kansas State, scoring fewer than 30 points for only the second time all season. The program is fuelled by its offense, specifically 6-foot-5 QB Donovan Smith. The sophomore threw for 359 yards and 2 TD versus the Wildcats, while rushing for 20 yards and an additional score.

He’s thrown for 1,475 yards and 11 TD through five games, while also scoring on the ground in four straight outings. The Red Raiders rank fourth in the country in passing yards per game and second in pass attempts. The problem is they’ve had trouble taking care of the football, and their defense is quite vulnerable.

Texas Tech averages 2.8 giveaways per game, and ranks 117th in turnover differential. The defense is yielding 32 points per contest, and ranks 107th in points per play allowed. Oklahoma State will be just the second top-25 offense they’ll face, with the only other (Texas) shelling them for 37 points and 428 total yards.

Texas Tech vs Oklahoma State Betting Analysis

If there’s a weakness on the Cowboys’ defense it’s through the air, but their pass rush is good enough to help mitigate that. They average three sacks per contest and generate enough pressure to consistently disrupt enemy QB’s. That was on display against Baylor, as they held the Bears scoreless for nearly 30 minutes at one point.

Smith has already been sacked 18 times this year and with the Red Raiders having major giveaway issues, expect the Oklahoma State pass rush to wreak havoc.

The Cowboys have surrendered 25 points or less in three straight outings, and I like them to keep Texas Tech in check here. That should bring the under into play, even though Oklahoma State is set up to smash offensively.

Under 68.5 certainly won’t be a popular wager, it’s worth noting the total has already moved down a point from its opener.

Pick: Under 68.5 (-110)
