  • The Texas vs Oklahoma odds favor Texas by 7 points in the latest installment of this storied rivalry on Saturday (Oct. 8) at Noon ET in Week 6 action
  • This will be the first time both teams are unranked for this matchup since 1998
  • The complete Texas vs Oklahoma odds can be found below, along with a betting prediction

How the mighty have fallen. Texas (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) and Oklahoma (3-2, 0-2 Big 12), two of the biggest programs in the nation, have combined for four losses through just five weeks of college football action. Both teams have dropped out of the AP Top-25, making their matchup on Saturday feel a whole lot less significant.

It will mark the first time since 1998 that each program is unranked for this rivalry game, while both schools are currently dealing with significant injuries.

Oddsmakers view Oklahoma’s injuries, in addition to their recent play, as a major red flag, and have installed Texas as a sizeable favorite in the college football odds.

The Longhorns are currently favored by 7 points, in a game that features a total of 66.5. As of Tuesday afternoon, the betting action has been completely one-sided, and there’s an excellent chance this line moves even further towards Texas. 60% of the spread wagers are currently backing the Longhorns, as is 80% of the spread handle.

Kickoff is scheduled for Noon ET at the Cotton Bowl, in Dallas, Texas, with ABC providing the broadcast coverage. The forecast calls for an absolutely perfect day for football, with sunshine and 71 degree temperatures on deck.

Oklahoma Sooners Betting Analysis

The Sooners enter play fresh off back-to-back losses in games where they were favored by 5 and 13.5 points respectively. Last week at TCU was one of the most humiliating losses in the program’s history, and it came at a major cost.

Oklahoma was blown out 55-24 by the Horned Frogs, surrendering 668 total yards, as well as 8.8 yards per carry to TCU ball carriers. It was the second most points an unranked opponent has ever put up against them, and it comes a week after Kansas State hung 41 points on them.

Starting QB Dillon Gabriel left the game with a concussion and remains in protocol early in the week. Head coach Brent Venables did not provide an update on his QB situation, other than saying all three of the other quarterbacks on the roster will get snaps this week to prepare.

Gabriel’s potential loss would be devastating for the Sooners. He’s been one of the lone bright spots on the roster, throwing for 1,215 yards, and 11 TD without an interception. Davis Beville came in for him in relief last week, and completed only 43% of his passes while absorbing three sacks.

Defensively, the situation is dire. Oklahoma ranks 86th in defensive efficiency per ESPN’s FPI and 94th in yards allowed. They’re yielding 198 yards per game on the ground and rank 92nd in takeaways.

Texas Longhorns Betting Analysis

The Sooners aren’t the only ones with a question mark at QB. Texas starter Quinn Ewers hasn’t played since suffering a shoulder injury in Week 2, and head coach Steve Sarkisian wouldn’t say whether he’ll play on Saturday. In Ewers place, Hudson Card has been effective, throwing for 923 yards in three-plus games, with 6 TD and just one pick.

The Longhorns have won two of those contests, including last week versus West Virginia. Texas put up 38 points and 446 yards of offense, with Card connecting three times with Xavier Worthy for scores.

Running back Bijan Robinson, a longshot Heisman Trophy odds contender, notched his third straight 100-yard rushing game and scored for the ninth time already this season.

After struggling to get off the field on defense in a loss versus Texas Tech the week prior, Texas bounced back on that side of the ball against the Mountaineers. They held West Virginia to only 315 yards of offense, racking up three sacks and seven tackles for loss.

Texas vs Oklahoma Pick

If Gabriel sits, this has the potential to get ugly. The Sooners managed just 7 points in two-plus quarters without him last week versus TCU, and Texas boasts a better defense than the Horned Frogs per FPI.

The Longhorns jumped out to a 28-7 lead in this matchup last year, before collapsing late and allowing Oklahoma to complete one of its largest comebacks ever. With a major advantage and the QB position, barring Gabriel sits, as well as favorable matchups in the run game, expect Texas to race out to a big lead and not look back.

Pick: Texas First Half Spread -3.5 (-115)
