No. 12 UCLA (7-1, 4-1 Pac-12) is an 11-point road favorite over Arizona State in a Pac-12 game at 10:30 pm ET Saturday on FS1 at Sun Devil Stadium. The Bruins are chasing Pac-12 South rival No. 9 USC and Pac-12 North leader No. 8 Oregon for the league title and a possible CFB Final Four berth.

Arizona State (3-5, 2-3) has won two of its last three games under interim coach Shaun Aguano, starting with a 45-38 home victory over then-No. 21 Washington on Oct. 8. Aguano replaced Herman Edwards, who left the program Sept. 18 after a 30-21 home loss to MAC Eastern Michigan.

UCLA is 7-2 ATS in its last nine road games. Arizona State is 5-2 ATS in its last seven home games. The total has gone over in eight of the last 12 games in the series.

UCLA Faces Rough Road

UCLA recovered from its 45-30 humbling at Oregon two weeks ago with a decisive 37-13 victory over Stanford last week, but that was not enough to convince the CFP selection committee. The Bruins were ranked No. 12 in the first CFP rankings released Tuesday, making a spot in the CFP Final Four almost impossible to reach.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Zach Charbonnet continue to provide a strong offensive punch for the 7-1 Bruins, but their defense has struggled in league play. The Bruins gave up 32 points apiece in wins over then-ranked contenders Washington and Utah before Oregon quarterback Bo Nix took them apart with 283 yards passing and five touchdowns, moving them lower in the Pac-12 conference title odds.

Thompson-Robinson is No. 10 in NCAA Division I in passing efficiency and has 1,971 yards passing, 17 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has 319 yards rushing and five touchdowns, complementing dual-purpose threat Charbonnet. Charbonnet has 964 yards rushing with 10 touchdowns and 7.5-yard average per carry, and he also has 20 receptions. He leads the Pac-12 with 170.86 all-purpose yards per game.

Charbonnet, who missed an early-season game against Alabama State, leads the Pac-12 and is third in Division I with 137.7 rushing yards per game, behind only UAB’s DeWayne McBride (163.7) and Illinois’s Chase Brown (151). Charbonnet has rushed for at least one touchdown in each of his last nine Pac-12 games and run for at least 100 yards in each of his last seven.

Arizona State Making Progress

The primary force has been senior and former walk-on quarterback Trenton Bourguet, who replaced Florida transfer Emory Jones early in a 45-38 victory over Washington on Oct. 8 and threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner with 7:27 remaining to break the losing streak.

After a 15-14 loss at Stanford in which Jones started Oct. 15, Bourguet made his first career start in a 42-34 victory at Colorado the last time out.  Bourguet threw for 435 yards and four touchdowns, and Aguano has said he will start the rest of the season.

Wyoming running back Xazavian Valladay is second to Charbonnet in the Pac-12 with 95 rushing yards per game. The Sun Devils have been thin in the secondary since a 34-13 loss to Utah five weeks ago because twin brother starters cornerback Keon Markham and safety Kejuan Markham have not played for personal reasons.

UCLA vs Arizona State Prediction

UCLA has a boatload of offense, but it is very hard to lay this many points on a team that has given up at least 30 points in three of its last four Pac-12 games. Arizona State has enough weapons to keep this one within the number.
