The Rebels have lost five in a row. UNLV’s last victory was a 31-20 decision over New Mexico on September 30. The Rainbow Warriors have lost four straight games. Hawaii’s last win game via a 31-16 triumph over Nevada on October 16.

The line in this showdown for the Island Trophy was originally at UNLV -9.5 in the CFB odds. It went as low as Rebels -8.5 before climbing to its current status.

The kickoff for this game at the Clarence TC Ching Athletics Complex is set at 8:00 pm ET on Saturday, November 19.  The weather forecast is calling for mostly sunny skies, 18 mph wind and a temperature of 84 degrees. Broadcast of the game can be streamed on Team1Sports.

UNLV vs Hawaii Betting Trends

In the public betting splits, spread bettors are riding confidently with the Rainbow Warriors. Hawaii is getting 74% of handle and 62% of bets in spread wagering. Moneyline bettors can’t make up their mind, though. There’s 64% of public betting handle going with Hawaii. However, a significant 83% of bets are backing UNLV.

Total players are solidly supporting the under as the play. In fact, 99% of public total handle is on the under, while 79% of bets are also going in that direction. The under has proven to be the correct call in seven of Hawaii’s last 10 games.

Rebels Can Move The Football

A key edge that looks to be working to UNLV’s advantage in this matchup is the ability the Rebels are showing in being able to move the football downfield. The Rebels are averaging 352 yards of total offense per game.

UNLV is also fifth in the MWC is scoring offense, putting 24.6 points on the board per game. Running back Aiden Robbins and quarterback Doug Brumfield have combined to run for 15 touchdowns this season. Brumfield has also passed for nine TDs. UNLV is dominant in the red zone. The Rebels have scored in 29 of 35 trips there, including 22 TDs.

Fast starts are a common trend in UNLV victories this season. In their four wins, the Rebels held a combined 104-60 edge on the scoreboard at the half. Conversely, they’ve trailed at halftime by a combined  120-37 in their six setbacks. If UNLV can win its last two games the school will be bowl-eligible for the first time since 2013.

Hawaii Facing Defensive Issues

Keeping the other team from getting to the end zone is an ongoing issue for the Rainbow Warriors defense. Hawaii is last in the MWC and 124th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 36.27 points per game. Hawaii is seeking to avoid its first 10-loss season since 2015.

Holding on to the football is another problem for this team. Hawaii ranks 121st in the NCAA with a -8 turnover ratio. The Rainbow Warriors have lost six fumbles and thrown 12 interceptions. Hawaii’s Tylan Hines is second in the nation among freshmen RB with a per-carry average of 7.97 yards.

UNLV vs Hawaii Prediction

When assessing this game, many trends and metrics appear to work in favor of the Rainbow Warriors. They are 6-1 SU in the last seven home games against UNLV and 7-1 ATS in their last seven games facing MWC opposition.

As well, the home team is 11-2 SU in the last 13 games of this series. And it’s senior night at Hawaii. The Rainbow Warriors are 9-1 SU on the last 10 senior nights and 4-1 SU vs UNLV on senior night.

There is one glaring omission from that list working for the Rebels. UNLV is 6-1-1 ATS in the last eight games facing Hawaii. But this is the seventh time this season Hawaii is getting double-digit points in the spread. The Rainbow Warriors are already 4-2 ATS in that scenario, including a 2-1 ATS slate at home.

Pick: Hawaii Rainbow Warriors +11 (-110)
