  • In the USC vs Washington State odds, the Trojans are 13-point home favorites over the Cougars in their Saturday, October 8 college football game
  • The #6-ranked Trojans are 6-1 straight up and 5-2 against the spread over their last seven home games against Washington State
  • The Cougars are 12-3 ATS over their last 15 games

One of the feel-good stories of the college football season, the Washington State Cougars (4-1, 4-1 ATS) will facing their toughest test of 2022 as they visit the #6 USC Trojans (5-0, 3-2 ATS).

The Trojans are set as 13-point home favorites over the Cougars. Washington State’s only road victory of the season was a 17-14 win at Wisconsin. The Cougars covered against the Badgers as 17.5-point underdogs.

However, Washington State has covered just twice over the school’s last seven visits to USC. The Cougars show one outright win over those seven games.

Expecting this pattern to be continuing, oddsmakers are staying with the Trojans as the home chalk. USC is 7-9 ATS in the school’s last 16 games as a double-digit-point favorite.

Washington State vs USC Betting Trends

At moneyline odds of -480, the Trojans are offering an implied probability of victory of 82.76% in the CFB odds. A successful $10 wager on USC would be delivering a payout of just $12.10.

In terms of NCAA public betting trends, the Trojans are drawing the majority of support in the moneyline splits. There’s 77% of handle and 94% of bets on USC. However, point-spread wagering is going both ways. USC is getting 58% of the bets, while 55% of handle is going with Washington State. It’s the over that the public is hitting the hardest on the total. There’s 79% of the public handle going with the over. As well, 68% of bets are also seeing the over as the play.

That’s going against recent head-to-head results. Five of the last six USC-Washington State games have gone under.

In NCAA future bets, the Trojans are the +1400 fifth betting in the National Championship odds. Washington State is at +100000 to win the CFP. USC is the +180 co-favorite with Utah to capture the Pac-12 title.  The Cougars are the sixth pick to take the Pac-12 at +3000.

Washington State QB Ward Piling Up Yardage, Interceptions

Washington State quarterback Cameron Ward has thrown for 1445 yards. That’s #18 in the NCAA. Ward has passed for 13 touchdowns, but he’s been picked off seven times. He’s tied for the most interceptions among NCAA QBs.

Defensively, the Huskies have the pass rush capable of getting after and disrupting Williams. Washington State is seventh in the nation with 18 sacks and #5 with 44 tackles for loss. Senior linebacker Daiyan Henley has 4.0 sacks, good for a tie for 21st in the NCAA. Henley is also third in the nation with eight tackles for loss.

USC QB Williams Making Heisman Case

The second betting choice in the Heisman Trophy odds at +550, Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams was displaying those credentials in last week’s 44-25 win over Arizona State. Williams threw for 348 yards and three TDs. He went 27-of-37 through the air, a 73.0% completion rate. He also carried the ball eight times for 44 yards and a TD.

USC wideout Jordan Addison is tied for sixth in the NCAA with six TD receptions. USC’s opportunistic defense has helped to create a +14 turnover ratio, #1 in the nation. No other school rates higher than +9.

Washington State vs USC Prediction

USC has topped 40 points in four of five games this season. The Trojans aren’t great at defending the run (T84, 154.4 yards per game allowed). Fortunately for them, the Cougars aren’t great at running the ball (122nd, 91.8 yards per game).

The Cougars’ offense has turned the ball over multiple times in every game this season. That’s a recipe for disaster against the Trojans.  USC will win, but Washington State will keep it close.

Pick: Washington State +13 (-110).
