Huskies Remain Undefeated

The Huskies are a perfect 8-0 under head coach Kalen DeBoer and have established themselves as a College Football Playoff contender. Washington is coming off a 42-33 win over Stanford last week in which the Cardinal actually outgained the Huskies 499-460 in total yardage.

The Huskies have a balanced offensive attack led by quarterback Michael Penix Jr. who has thrown for 2,934 yards and 22 touchdowns this season. Penix Jr. ascended to the top of the Heisman odds after tossing four touchdown passes in the win over Stanford.

Running back Wayne Taulapapa powers the ground game with 547 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Wide receiver Rome Odunze is Penix’s favorite target with 58 catches for 902 yards and seven scores.

Washington is turning the ball over approximately 1.5 times per game, which is something they need to clean up down the final stretch. UW’s defense is also allowing 400 yards and 20.6 points per game, which is another area that requires improvement.

Trojans Aim to Stop the Bleeding

The Trojans are 7-2 overall and 5-1 in Pac-12 play under second-year head coach Lincoln Riley. After starting the season 6-0, USC has dropped two of their last three games including a 48-20 loss to Notre Dame two weeks ago.

Last week, the Trojans narrowly escaped with a 50-49 win over California. The Torjans’ defense was exploited for over 500 yards of total offense by the Golden Bears, including 200-plus rushing yards and 200-plus passing yards.

USC QB Caleb Williams has put up Heisman-worthy numbers so far, passing for 2,821 yards with 28 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. However, Williams struggled mightily against Notre Dame, tossing 3 interceptions in the blowout loss. USC will need him at his best this week.

We know what this USC offense is capable of, but it’s their defense that is proving to be the team’s downfall once again. The Trojans are allowing 421 yards per game and 32.6 points per contest, which places them near the bottom of the Pac-12 in both categories.

Washington vs USC Prediction

This game has massive implications, with USC trying to revitalize their season and Washington hunting for a CFP berth. The Trojans have developed a reputation for securing unexpected wins late in the season, particularly under previous coaches like Pete Carroll and Clay Helton.

While Williams is capable of leading his team to an upset victory, we have no confidence in this USC defense to stop a UW offensive attack that features an NFL-level quarterback and several NFL-level wide receivers. They’ve already torched elite defensive teams such as Oregon.

USC might have to try and slow this game down by running the ball to keep Michael Penix Jr. off the field. That’s easier said than done when you have a rushing attack that ranks 70th nationally on the ground (155 YPG).

Here are some betting trends to note for USC vs Washington:

  • Washington are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games against Southern California
  • Washington are 6-0 SU in their last 6 games on the road
  • Southern California are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games

It wouldn’t shock us if the Trojans pulled out the upset here, but the Huskies are the more complete team and should both win and cover the spread Saturday.

  • Pick: Washington -3 (-105)
