- The Buccaneers are 1-1 against the spread on the road this season and 2-0 on the total
As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers arrive at Soldier Field for this week’s Thursday Night Football tilt, there’s another world to conquer for Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.
It’s his first prime-time appearance with Tampa Bay.
Brady and the 3-1 Bucs are the 4-point road favorites in the Buccaneers vs Bears odds. The 2-2 Bears have been more monstrous than Monsters of the Midway at home this season. Chicago is an NFL-worst 0-2 at home against the spread.
Kickoff for this game is 8:20 pm ET. The forecast is calling for 77 degrees, clear skies and a 15 mph wind.
Buccaneers vs Bears Odds
Team | Moneyline | Spread | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | -182 | -4 (+105) | O 44 (-114) |
Chicago Bears | +160 | +4 (-130) | U 44 (-107) |
Odds taken Oct. 7th at DraftKings
Tampa Bay hasn’t won at Chicago since 2008. But then again, the Bucs have never arrived in the Windy City with a six-time Super Bowl winner at QB before.
Follow the Bouncing Odds
Tampa Bay opened as the 5.5-point chalk when the line was first set on this game. There was movement toward Chicago, lowering the line to Buccaneers -3.5 before it bounced back to its current 4.5-point standing.
Call it the Brady bump. Tampa Bay covered as six-point road favorites at Denver, beating the Broncos 28-10 during Week 3.
Surprisingly, Tampa Bay has been a road favorite now in four successive games. They covered at Jacksonville (-3) and Detroit (-6) in their final two road games of 2019.

Overall, though, until recently the Bucs were rarely the favored son when away from home. Over the past 11 seasons, Tampa Bay was favored in just eight of 88 road games.
This is the first time the Buccaneers will take the field at Chicago as the chalk since December 29, 2002. They covered, beating the Bears 15-0 that day.
Buccaneers Receiving Ward
If a Tampa Bay victory is to come to pass, Brady may find himself needing to get acquainted with his offensive weapons. The top five pass catchers for the Bucs are either out or questionable for this game.
Tight end OJ Howard (hip) and wideout Chris Godwin (hamstring) are out. Receivers Mike Evans (ankle) and Scotty Miller (hip) and tight end Rob Gronkowski (shoulder) are questionable.
Bruce Arians believes OJ Howard will be done for the season.

At running back, LeSean McCoy (ankle) is out and Leonard Fournette (ankle) is doubtful.
The Bears enter the game relatively healthy. Receiver Darnell Mooney (shoulder) is the only starter listed as questionable.
Super Bowl Rematch
Just two QBs have gotten the better of Brady on Super Bowl Sunday. On Thursday, he’ll be staring across the field at one of them.
Bears starter Nick Foles led the Philadelphia Eagles to a 41-33 victory over Brady and the New England Patriots in the 2018 Super Bowl.

Mitch Trubisky: 4-1

Foles is 1-1 since taking over as the Bears’ starter for Mitchell Trubisky. He’s 6-7 as a starter for three different teams (Eagles, Jaguars, Bears) since that Super Bowl victory over Brady.
Trend Spotting
The Buccaneers are just 2-4 ATS in their last six visits to Chicago. They’re also an underwhelming 3-6 straight up in their last nine meetings with the Bears.
Brady, however, is a perfect 5-0 in his career against the Bears. He’s thrown for 14 touchdowns against just four interceptions in those games.
I’m so grateful to all the players and coaches and organizations that have made this possible. Nothing in football is achieved as an individual…I’m so thankful to be playing a game I love and so lucky to have made so many friends along the way. https://t.co/3qVN5kXWt2

On average, he’s passed for 319 yards per game when the Bears are his opponent. His career passer rating of 109.2 when facing Chicago is his best number against any NFC team.
Put a unit on the Bucs and give the four points at +105.
Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -4 (+105)
