Gillette Stadium will be a wild place Sunday night when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1) take on the New England Patriots (1-2) on NBC. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20pm ET. When that happens, Tom Brady will take the field as a member of the visiting team for the first time in his 21-year career.

Last week didn’t go so well for Brady and his Buccaneers as they were throttled by the Los Angeles Rams 34-24. Brady threw for 432 yards in the loss but couldn’t consistently get the ball into the end zone. The Patriots didn’t do much better, getting smashed 28-13 at home by the New Orleans Saints. Mac Jones threw three interceptions in a game that was never close.

The Buccaneers opened as 3-point favorites in this one but the line has since swelled to -6.5. Everyone on the planet seems to be on Tampa Bay as 67% of the early bets have come in on the Buccaneers. The total for this one is pretty much the same as the opening number of 49.  As always, there are plenty of player props to consider.

Mac Jones Can Move

The story surrounding this game is Tom Brady going back to Gillette Stadium. The student taking on his master, the hero now the villain, whatever you want to call it. It’s a great story but lost in the story is Mac Jones. After all, he’s the guy that is supposed to be the long-term replacement for Brady. But it’s not Jones’ arm I’m interested in, it’s his legs.

If you want my opinion, I think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to kill the New England Patriots on Sunday night. I don’t even think it will be close. The players on the Buccaneers will run through a wall for Tom Brady and we all know he wants this game more than anything. Good luck Patriots.

If I’m right and the game script plays out like I think, the Patriots will be chasing points. In a scenario like that, Jones will be throwing. Tampa Bay has a very good defense so with elevated pass attempts comes elevated rushing opportunities for Jones.

If we just go by numbers this looks like a bad play. No team in the NFL has allowed fewer rushing yards to the quarterback position than the Buccaneers. Here’s the rub though. Tampa has faced Matt Ryan and Matthew Stafford. Neither one of those guys can move. We saw plays break down Week 1 for Dak Prescott and he had no problems running for 13 yards.

All we need out of Jones is 4.5. He took off six times for 28 yards last week. Why not at least five yards in this game?

  • The Pick: Mac Jones Over 4.5 Rushing Yards (-115) – Wager 1.15 units to win 1 unit
  • 2021 NFL Player Props Record – 5-4 +.75 Units

Who Scores?

There are certain rules we must follow in life and having a touchdown scorer prop in a NFL primetime game is one of them. There is no bet like it in NFL prop world and that will never change. The total on this game is 49.5 so we will more than likely see multiple touchdowns. I think we absolutely have to play Jakobi Meyers to get one them.

He’s not a household name yet but he’s been doing his thing in New England for a couple years now.

No team in the NFL has given up more touchdowns to the wide receiver position than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If Tom Brady hangs points all over the place, the Patriots will be forced to chase. If that happens, we will see Mac Jones throwing the ball everywhere. Meyers hasn’t found the end zone yet this season, but given the environment, +190 seems a little high for him to do it tonight.

  • Pick: Jakobi Meyers – Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+190): Wager .1 unit to win 0.19 units
  • 2021 Touchdown Scorer prop record: 2-7, -0.46 units
