For the first time this season, the Kansas City Chiefs are listed as underdogs when they take on the Green Bay Packers in Week 8.

The 6-1 Green Bay Packers will roll into Arrowhead on a high after Aaron Rodgers roasted the Raiders for five touchdown passes. They’ll be meeting a Chiefs team who will be without their quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

The reigning MVP suffered a dislocated knee cap against the Denver Broncos in Week 7, and is expected to be on the sidelines for a few weeks. The sportsbooks have reacted by opening the Packers as 3-point road favorites in Week 8.

Rodgers and Company Coming in Hot

Rodgers had been having a good 2019, but not a great one. The story for much of the season has been the Packers improved defense. For years Rodgers carried this team without any help on the other side of the ball, nor did he have a dependable running back. Both of those holes seem to have been filled this season.

A Week 7 win over the Oakland Raiders, however, showed that Rodgers is still elite.

The Packers pivot torched the Raiders defense. He completed 25 passes while only throwing six incompletions, racking up 429 yards. His five passing touchdowns on the day were eye-catching and he also managed a rushing score, as well. Oh and by the way, he did all of this with his favorite target on the bench in Davante Adams.

How Will the Chiefs Adjust to Life Without Mahomes?

When Mahomes went down with a knee injury in Week 7, things didn’t look good. Thoughts of him missing the entire season were real. Thankfully for everyone, Mahomes will miss just a few weeks with an MRI revealing that he has no ligament damage in his knee.

Still, things will be very different in Arrowhead while he sits on the sidelines.

Filling in for Mahomes in the meantime will be veteran Matt Moore. The 35-year-old has seen plenty of football in his 12 years in the league.

His best season came in 2011 when he played for the Miami Dolphins. He threw for 2,497 yards and 16 touchdowns during the season. To show just how much of a drop off there will be between Mahomes and Moore, the reigning MVP already has over 2,100 yards and 15 touchdowns before the halfway point of the season.

Chiefs fans can forget about the big plays that Mahomes has given them every night. Instead, a heavy workload for running back Lesean McCoy to go along with tons of screen passes should be expected.

How Will the Line Move?

Life without Mahomes is going to be so different for the Chiefs. They don’t have a particularly strong defense so they won’t be able to rely on that in this matchup. Running back Lesean McCoy isn’t what he used to be, so simply handing him the ball over and over again doesn’t seem like the best way to go about this game either.

The Chiefs will have to figure out how to not get embarrassed by Rodgers and company in front of their home crowd.

With the line opening up at GB -3, I expect that to only grow larger as bettors start pouring money on the Packers.

Don’t look up anymore numbers and don’t go back and forth in your head about this one. Take the Packers and expect them to cover. This will be the easiest money you have ever made.
