Killer Kyler Ready to Breakout

Quarterback can often be an afterthought in fantasy football, but in real life, it’s clearly the most important position.

Lamar Jackson led the position last year thanks to 3,127 passing yards, 1,206 rushing yards and 43 total touchdowns. He’s narrowly listed as the favorite over AFC nemesis and newly minted Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes.

Both would be great bets based on their talent level, but I’m looking a little further down the board for a value pick.

Kyler Murray fits the bill for me. Like Jackson he has shown the dual threat ability at an elite level in Kliff Kingsbury’s Air Raid offense.

His rookie season was impressive, but perhaps he can channel some stats like he did in his Oklahoma days with new weapon DeAndre Hopkins in the fold.

The Pick: Kyler Murray (+1000)

Don’t Overthink Michael Thomas

Michael Thomas was the best wide receiver in fantasy last year and he will be again in 2020. He was targeted 185 times despite an early season injury to starting quarterback Drew Brees.

Thomas finished the campaign with 149 receptions, 1,725 yards and 9 touchdowns. The former Ohio State Buckeye proved he’s the best in the game and I don’t expect to see him slow down this year.

The Saints are reportedly open to trading running back Alvin Kamara. This may be bad news if you’re a Saints fan but Thomas fantasy owners should be licking their chops.

Kamara catches a ton of balls out of the backfield, and if he were to move on, it would only result in more opportunities for Thomas to pad his stats. Looking at the favorites for quarterback and running back, you’ll notice the +700 is incredible value that you should bet with confidence.

The Pick: Michael Thomas (+700)

Running Back Odds to Score Most 2020 Regular Season Fantasy Points

Player Odds
Christian McCaffrey (Panthers) +300
Saquon Barkley (Giants) +500
Ezekiel Elliot (Cowboys) +550
Derrick Henry (Titans) +600
Dalvin Cook (Vikings) +800
Alvin Kamara (Saints) +1400
   Nick Chubb (Browns) +1600
Clyde Edwards-Helaire (Chiefs) +1600
Miles Sanders (Eagles) +1600
Joe Mixon (Bengals) +1800
Aaron Jones (Packers) +1800
Josh Jacobs (Raiders) +1800
Kenyan Drake (Cardinals) +2000
Chris Carson (Seahawks) +2500
Austin Ekeler (Chargers) +2500
Todd Gurley (Falcons) +3500
David Johnson (Texans) +3500
Leonard Fournette (Free Agent) +4000

Can Anyone Unseat C-Mac?

Making the case against Christian McCaffrey is silly. He’s an absolute stud for the Carolina Panthers who racks up yards and touchdowns at an incredible rate. He’s a great bet to be the best at the position even with the +300 price tag.

All that said, there is a long shot you might want to bet as well way down the board.

Texans running back David Johnson is healthy and ready to take control of a new offense. In 2016 he compiled 2,118 total yards and 20 touchdowns.

2016 may feel like forever ago but with Hopkins out of town, there’s a path for him to put up similar numbers for Houston in 2020. I like two bets here, the favorite and the incredible value of Johnson at +3500.

The Picks: Christian McCaffrey (+300) & David Johnson (+3500)

Tight End Odds to Score Most 2020 Regular Season Fantasy Points

Player Odds
Travis Kelce (Chiefs) +220
George Kittle (49ers) +350
Mark Andrews (Ravens) +700
Zach Ertz (Eagles) +800
Darren Waller (Raiders) +1100
Evan Engram (Giants) +1200
   Jared Cook (Saints) +1200
Hunter Henry (Chargers) +1400
Tyler Highbee (Rams) +1400
Rob Gronkowski (Buccaneers) +2000
Hayden Hurst (Falcons) +2000
Noah Fant (Broncos) +2200
Austin Hooper (Browns) +2200

Waller is Raiders Focal Point

My favorite value bet on the board comes at the tight end position. Travis Kelce of the Chiefs led the group last year followed closely by George Kittle of the 49ers and Darren Waller of the Raiders.

The trio were the only players to top 1,000 yards and yet, Waller is the only one listed as a semi-long shot despite having more catches and yards than Kittle in 2019.

He’s paying +1100 and that’s a bet I absolutely love.

Waller only recorded three touchdowns last year which, when it comes to tight ends, can be as much about luck and opportunity as anything else. If he racks up big time yards again this year and his luck improves, he’s a great value play.

The Pick: Darren Waller (+1100)

D/ST Odds to Score Most 2020 Regular Season Fantasy Points

Player Odds
Pittsburgh Steelers +1100
San Francisco 49ers +1200
Los Angeles Rams +1200
New England Patriots +1400
Baltimore Ravens +1400
Philadelphia Eagles +1600
   Kansas City Chiefs +1600
New Orleans Saints +1600
Buffalo Bills +1600
Minnesota Vikings +1600
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +1800
Indianapolis Colts +2000
Seattle Seahawks +2000
Cleveland Browns +2200
Green Bay Packers +2200
Denver Broncos +2200
Dallas Cowboys +2200

As easy as it is to joke about how meaningless team defenses are, last year the New England Patriots were a historically high scoring fantasy defense and league winner for many.

Do I expect anyone to be that good this year? No.

That said I do really like what Nick Bosa and the 49ers have going on. They are paying a tidy +1200 and worth the risk.

The Pick: San Francisco 49ers (+1200)

Kicker Odds to Score Most 2020 Regular Season Fantasy Points

Player Odds
Harrison Butker (Chiefs) +1000
Wil Lutz (Saints) +1000
Justin Tucker (Ravens) +1100
Robbie Gould (49ers) +1200
Greg Zuerlein (Cowboys) +1200
Jake Elliot (Eagles) +1400
   Jason Myers (Seahawks) +1400
Matt Prater (Lions) +1400
Dan Bailey (Vikings) +1400
Brandon McManus (Broncos) +1600
Younghoe Koo (Falcons) +1600
Austin Seibert (Browns) +1600
Chase McLaughlin (Colts) +1600

As you can see not much separates the best from the middle of the pack in the kicker odds. Let’s not read into this too much.

Harrison Butker of the Chiefs was the best at the position last year thanks to an explosive offense. The Ravens have Lamar Jackson, Mark Ingram and now J.K. Dobbins. They’ll be putting up points in bunches all year so I’m going with Justin Tucker at +1100.

The Pick: Justin Tucker (+1100)
