Rams’ Super Bowl 55 Odds Still Listed at +1700 After Taking Down Seahawks – Are They Undervalued?

The Los Angeles Rams have emerged as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

The Rams beat the Seattle Seahawks 23-16 in Week 10 and are now in a three-way tie atop the NFC West. They were listed at +2500 to win the championship prior to the game but those odds have jumped to +1700.

Let’s take a look at the Rams with the glass half full and the glass half empty to see if there’s any value left given their current Super Bowl odds.

Rams Receivers Leading the Way

Sean McVay is one of the smartest coaches in the league. He knows his best chance to score points is to rely on his stable of fantastic receivers. While Jared Goff may have a limited ceiling, he’s more than capable of finding targets that are wide open. Lucky for him that’s exactly how he finds Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods and Josh Reynolds on the regular.

Kupp leads the team with 527 receiving yards, followed by Woods with 436 and Reynolds with 322. The trio have combined for eight touchdowns on the season. While Kupp and Woods have been known to bettors and fantasy football players for a while now, Reynolds’ emergence has given the Rams offense an extra spark.

In his fourth year with Los Angeles, he has blossomed into a reliable weapon. In the last three games Reynolds has 27 targets, showing Goff has real trust in his ability. While none of the three receivers may offer the upside of a Tyreek Hill or DeAndre Hopkins, they offer something very valuable in their own right – a problem for opposing defensive coordinators. Most teams don’t have three great cover corners to deal with the speed and ability McVay and Goff have at their disposal.

Will Whitworth Injury Haunt Rams?

The Rams lost left tackle Andrew Whitworth to a torn PCL and torn MCL on Sunday. By all indications his season is over and Los Angeles will be left scrambling to try and protect Goff going forward. It’s never a good time to lose one of the best lineman in the league, but having it happen after the trade deadline is particularly unlucky. McVay and his offensive line coach will need to get creative both with personnel and with schemes now that Whitworth is out.

All of that said, Whitworth wasn’t the most important lineman on the Rams. That designation goes to a lineman on the defensive side of the ball, Aaron Donald. The game’s most feared defensive tackle leads the league with nine sacks despite being double teams on almost every play. As long as Donald is disrupting opposing offenses and the Rams are able to continue scoring points, they should be able to survive the Whitworth injury.

Next up for the Rams are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. Tampa Bay has been the most unpredictable team of the year and that’s important to note here.
