Under a Total Winner In NFL Week 5
Hitting on nine of 16 games, NFL Week 5 betting news shows that there were some surprising unders that cashed on the schedule. The Detroit Lions came into Week 5 with a 4-0 slate on the over this season and 6-0 going back to last season. However not only did the Lions go under in Week 5, Detroit, the NFL’s #1 scoring offense, was blanked in a 29-0 road loss to the New England Patriots.
That game went under the total by 16.5 points but proved to be only the silver medal winner in getting under by the widest margin. Houston’s 13-6 win at Jacksonville saw the Texans and Jaguars go under by 24.5 points.
The Detroit Lions went 0-6 on 4th down in their 29-0 loss to the Patriots on Sunday.
That's the worst performance on 4th down by any team in a game over the last 45 seasons.

The Week 5 betting roundup is showing that two games – the 12-9 verdict by the Indianapolis Colts over the Denver Broncos and the Houston vs Jacksonville contest – saw both teams fail to combine for 20 points. Five teams failed to score a touchdown during Week 5 action.
Prime time is continuing to be prime real estate for playing the under on the total. Two of the three Week 5 prime time games hit on the under. This season, the under is 11-5 during NFL games slated for prime time starts.
Every Underdog Has a Day
So much for home-field advantage. The away underdogs were having themselves a day throughout Week 5 action. It started with the TNF game, as the Colts covered and won outright as 3-point underdogs at Denver. The conclusion to this run of away underdog success wound up on MNF, where the visiting Las Vegas Raiders fell 30-29 to the Kansas City Chiefs, but easily covered as 7-point road underdogs.

Of the eight away underdogs that covered, four won outright. The Texans were outright winners as 7-point underdogs, while the New York Giants dropped the Green Bay Packers, who were the 8.5-point chalk. The Giants are now 4-1 straight up and ATS this season. A 5-point underdog at the reigning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams, the Dallas Cowboys were 22-10 winners.
There are 11 NFL teams that remain unbeaten ATS this season as away underdogs.
Home underdogs were 3-2 ATS in Week 5. The New York Jets were outright 40-17 winners over the Miami Dolphins as 3.5-point home underdogs.
Falcons Keep Soaring In NFL
The Atlanta Falcons were among those eight away underdogs who covered, but it was touch and go. Atlanta was 10-point road underdogs at Tampa Bay. Entering the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers were leading 21-0.
Atlanta scored a pair of fourth-quarter TDs. The second, a 19-yard pass to Olamide Zaccheaus from QB Marcus Mariota came with 4:38 left in regulation time.

Thanks to that late score, the Falcons covered in a 21-15 loss. Though only 2-3 SU, Atlanta is 5-0 ATS. The Falcons are the NFL’s only remaining unbeaten ATS squad.
