Lehner Rebounds With Game 3 Shutout

After giving up four goals in Game 2, Robin Lehner rebounded with one of his best performances of the entire postseason in Game 3. The former Chicago goaltender stopped all 32 shots he faced to lead his team to a 3-0 victory. He’s now posted four shutouts against Vancouver this season.

Lehner has been good in these playoffs, but he had yet to really steal a game for his team heading into Game 3. The 2019 Vezina Trophy finalist proved his worth with a terrific showing Saturday that could’ve gone Vancouver’s way, but several key saves in the first period prevented that before his team eventually opened the scoring.

There was talk pregame that Marc-Andre Fleury could take over goaltending duties for Vegas in this series, but Lehner put that talk to rest with a great bounce-back effort in Game 3. We could still see the Flower in Game 4 given the back-to-back scenario, but Lehner is proving very reliable .

Tuch Leads Dynamic Vegas Offense

Who would’ve guessed that the leading goal-scorer for the Golden Knights 11 games into the postseason would be a member of their third line. Alex Tuch has been sensational for Vegas this postseason, scoring a team-leading seven goals and providing some huge depth scoring behind the top two scoring lines.

Tuch opened the scoring in Game 3, while  Zach Whitecloud and Mark Stone (PPG) also got on the board for Vegas.  The Golden Knights now have nine different players with multiple goals this postseason and five players operating near or at a point-per-game pace (Stone, Tuch, Reilly Smith, Jonathan  Marchessault and Shea Theodore).

The Golden Knights rank second among all remaining playoff teams averaging 3.70 goals-per-game. That’s important to note in a back-to-back scenario, because if one line is having an off night, you know there is another line capable of stepping up and getting the job done.

Roll With Vegas

With such a short layoff between Games 3 and 4 in this series, you’ll want to roll with the hot hand Sunday. The Golden Knights have controlled the majority of play in this series and have dominated the Canucks over certain stretches. Take the second period of Game 3: Vegas had nine high-danger chances, while Vancouver had zero.

Fatigue is a concern for Canucks’ goaltender Jacob Markstrom, as the workhorse has faced the most shots (424) of any goaltender in the NHL playoffs. The Canucks don’t have an experienced backup goaltender they can turn to for back-to-backs, meaning Markstrom will need to be the guy.

The Golden Knights are a great play in a back-to-back scenario. They have enough depth on offense to feel confident in their scoring, while goaltending is also a major strength. Lehner is racking up an impressive career resume against Vancouver, while the playoff veteran Fleury is a terrific second choice if Vegas opts to rest their starter.

Pick: Vegas Golden Knights Moneyline (-225)
