  • The Canadiens and Lightning play Game 4 of the 2021 Stanley Cup Final on Monday, July 5th
  • Tampa Bay can sweep the best-of-seven series with a victory
  • Read below for the odds, game preview and betting pick for Game 4

The Tampa Bay Lightning are heavily favored to sweep the Montreal Canadiens in the 2021 Stanley Cup Final. The Bolts have taken a 3-0 series lead and will look to complete the sweep in Game 4 on Monday, July 5th in Montreal. Puck drop is set for 8:00 pm ET at the Bell Centre.

The Habs are listed as heavy underdogs in Game 4 as they aim to beat Tampa Bay for the first time since 2019. Dominique Ducharme’s team is looking to become just the second NHL team in history to win the Stanley Cup after losing the first three games of the series.

Do the Habs offer underdog value in Game 4, or should you bet on Tampa Bay raising Lord Stanley?

Bolts On Cusp Of Repeat

The Tampa Bay Lightning are one win away from becoming the first NHL team to repeat as Stanley Cup champions since Pittsburgh accomplished the feat in 2016 and 2017. The Bolts have taken a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Habs in the 2021 Final and have outscored Montreal 14-5 in the series.

Tampa Bay won Game 3 on Friday by a 6-3 score. Tyler Johnson scored twice, while Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov each had a goal and an assist. Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy made 32 saves. The Russian netminder has now won 11 straight games against Montreal dating back to Feb. 24, 2018.

Tampa Bay is clearly the superior team in the series and are well-positioned to win their second consecutive Stanley Cup. Teams that take a 3-0 lead in a best-of-7 Cup Final are 26-1 all-time (96%) winning the series.

Habs Backs Against Wall

Montreal will look to keep its season alive with their backs against the wall in Game 4. Montreal has outchanced Tampa Bay in each game thus far, but they’ve shot themselves in the foot with too many costly mistakes. Not to mention, Vasilevskiy is significantly outplaying Carey Price.

YouTube video

Price has allowed 13 goals on 79 shots in the Cup Final after posting a terrific .924 save percentage and 2.02 GAA in the first three rounds. There were some rumblings that Montreal could turn to backup Jake Allen for Game 4, but coach Ducharme shutdown those discussions by saying Price is their guy.

The Canadiens are no strangers to overcoming adversity and have nothing to lose entering Game 4. They’ve been the underdogs the entire playoffs and have already far exceeded expectations. They were down 3-1 to Toronto in Round 1 before rallying to win three straight games.

Injury Report

Tampa Bay forward Alex Killorn is questionable for Game 4 after missing Game 3 due to injury. The 31-year-old has been a reliable producer during the Bolts’ playoff run, recording 8 goals and 17 points in 19 games. Johnson has taken his spot on the second line alongside Steven Stamkos and Anthony Cirelli for the time being.

On the Montreal side, coach Ducharme is back behind the bench after missing the previous six games while in NHL COVID-19 protocol. Forward Tomas Tatar (undisclosed) has yet to play since Round 1 against Toronto. The Slovakian forward scored 10 goals and 30 points in 50 games during the regular season.

Game 4 Best Bet

Montreal will be a desperate team in front of 3,500 fans at Bell Centre on Monday. If they want to steal a game against this Tampa Bay powerhouse, they’ll need a fast start and better goaltending from Price. The Habs are 1-4 when they don’t score the first goal, while the Lightning are 13-2 when scoring first.

This should be the closest game of the series given what’s on the line, but backing Tampa is still the play. The Bolts have far superior depth and are getting contributions from everyone. Not to mention, Price is 0-9 in his last nine games against Tampa, while Vasilevskiy is dominating the Habs. Bet on Tampa repeating as Cup champions with a victory in Game 4.

Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning ML (-150)
