  • There’s eight NHL games on tap for Sunday, March 7th
  • Robert Duff won his Wednesday pick, leaving his NHL record at 16-9 (+6.25 units won)
  • The New York Islanders have posted eight successive wins over the Buffalo Sabres

When it comes to the NHL betting lines, picking against the Buffalo Sabres is turning into a strategy akin to taking candy from a baby. Buffalo has lost six in a row straight up. The Sabres are 1-4 against the spread over the past five games.

Facing the New York Islanders for the second straight day on Sunday, Buffalo’s 5-2 setback marked the Sabres’ eighth straight loss to the Isles. This season, the Sabres are 1-4 against the spread when facing the Islanders. The Isles are solid -210 favorites to maintain their dominance of their cross-state rivals.

Betting the spread is also a solid play whenever the New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins clash on the ice. Each of their last four meetings have concluded in a one-goal verdict for the winner.

Isles Have Sabres Buffaloed

The 6-13-3 Sabres have dropped six in a row (0-5-1), including back-to-back 5-2 setbacks to the Isles. In fact, four of Buffalo’s last five losses were three-goal setbacks. This will be the third meeting between the two teams in a span of four days.

The Islanders have outscored Buffalo 19-7 in their five victories this season over the Sabres. Overall, the Isles are 9-0-2 at home in 2021.

The Islanders are the only NHL team that hasn’t lost in regulation at home. They’re on a seven-game point streak (6-0-1). Islanders forward Mathew Barzal has posted 3-4-7 totals over the past six games.

Amidst the disarray surrounding the team, Buffalo GM Kevyn Adams had stated that he was assessing the work of coach Ralph Krueger.

Pick: New York Islanders (-210).

Close Counts When Devils Face Bruins

Three of the last four New Jersey-Boston tilts have gone extra time. Two were decided via shootout and one in overtime. The Devils have won three of the last four from the Bruins.

Their most recent meeting on Feb. 18th saw the Devils win 3-2 in regulation time. They’ve lost seven of eight overall since that victory over Boston, though.

New Jersey is just 2-6 SU in the last six at Boston. However, six of those eight games were also decided by a one-goal margin.

Both clubs are coming into this games off of lopsided outcomes. The Devils were whipped 6-3 on Saturday afternoon by the New York Rangers. Boston, meanwhile, smacked the Washington Capitals 5-1 on Friday.

The Devils will be without captain Nico Hischier. He’s out with a broken nose and concussion after being struck in the face with a shot. Hischier had only been back in action five games after missing the first 11 games of the season due to a leg injury.

Boston also has injury issues. Defenseman Brandon Carlo was taken to hospital after his head was crashed into the boards by Washington’s Tom Wilson in Friday’s game. Wilson has been suspended by the NHL.

Pick: New Jersey +1.5 (-154).
