Edmonton Oilers Betting Analysis

The Edmonton Oilers have hit a bit of a lull in their season, losing five of their last eight affairs, though they have righted the ship with two victories in the last three. Scoring goals isn’t of any concern (fourth in goals/game), led by NHL points leader Connor McDavid and his 15-game point streak (15 goals, 17 assists, one shy of his career-high 16-game point streak, set last season).

Their issue has been keeping pucks out of their own net, as they’re tenth worst in the league. In each of their last four losses, at least four goals have been scored. Free-agent signing Jack Campbell hasn’t panned out (4.02 GAA, .876 save %), so Stuart Skinner has taken over the starting role, and he’s fared much better (2.81 GAA, .916 save %). Despite being first on the power play, the penalty kill has been lacking, ranking sixth worst.

Consistency has been a struggle all season, as they’ve lost five of their last six coming off a victory (Edmonton came out the holiday break with a 2-1 win against rival Calgary on Tuesday).

Seattle Kraken Betting Analysis

Through December 1st, the Kraken were the darlings of the NHL, producing a blistering 15-5-3 mark, good for fifth best in the league. They were third in goals per contest, but it was a bit of smoke and mirrors, as they ranked fourth worst in penalty kill.

Since then, Seattle has gone 3-6-1, which is the fourth-worst record in the NHL during that span. The goals have dried up, as they’re 25th in that department in the last ten outings, and they’ve given up the ninth most snipes. Special teams have been a disaster, with Kraken dead last in PP (4%, going 1-for-25), and the PK is sixth worst in hockey during their tailspin.

Oilers vs Kraken Pick

With both teams struggling to play strong defense, it’s a good time to jump on the over 6.5 goal total. That’s particularly true if their three-game history is any indication, with that hitting in all three matchups last season. Seven goals were notched twice and eight were achieved once.

Oilers vs Kraken Same-Game Parlay Picks

Pick Odds
Edmonton Oilers Moneyline -105
Over 6.5 Goals -115
PARLAY ODDS  +255

Something has to give – the over has hit in twelve of the Oilers last 16 games. However, the under is 10-2-1 in the Kraken last 13 home games. With Oil Country fourth in goals/game, and Seattle sixth, expect the lamp to be lit plenty of times on Friday evening. Edmonton is the better squad, even if they haven’t proven so thus far this season, so getting them as the underdog in this one is appealing.

Pick: Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (-105), Over 6.5 Goals (-115)
