Skinner Bolsters Oilers Betting Value in Tuesday NHL Odds

Edmonton brings a two-game winning streak into the Oilers vs Stars matchup thanks in large part to the play of rookie goaltender Stuart Skinner. The 23-year-old netminder has started the past two games against Winnipeg and Chicago, stopping 75-of-78 shots. He’s gotten the call with Mike Smith injured and Mikko Koskinen struggling.

Edmonton’s offense is lethal with the McDavid and Draisaitl, but defense has always been the question mark. If Skinner turns out to be the real deal, Edmonton will be a true contender in the Stanley Cup odds this season. Skinner is the projected starting goalie against Dallas in Tuesday’s NHL odds.

Oilers vs Stars Projected Starting Goalies

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
Edmonton Oilers Stuart Skinner 2-2-0 .939 2.08
Dallas Stars Jake Oettinger 2-0-0 .955 1.43

Edmonton is allowing 2.94 goals per game on the season, which is 17th-best in the league. Their offense, however, is scoring 3.88 goals per game, which is second-most in the NHL. McDavid is on a 17-game point streak that included another highlight-reel goal at Winnipeg’s expense on Nov. 18th.

Stars NHL Betting Analysis at Home

Dallas enters Tuesday’s NHL action having won three straight games at American Airlines Center. They’ve taken down Philadelphia, Detroit, and St. Louis at home over the last week, allowing a total of five goals in those games. Goalie Jake Oettinger started two of those contests, stopping 63-of-66 shots.

Dallas has had an up-and-down start to the 2021-22 NHL season, but they appear to be turning a corner. The Stars have won three of their past four games after managing just four victories in their first 12 games of the year. Dallas sits sixth in the Central Division with 16 points in 16 games.

While Dallas appears to be trending in the right direction, they still rank bottom-10 in the league in both offense (2.63 GF/GP) and defense (3.13 GAA). One of their biggest strength this season has been their power play, which is fifth-best in the NHL at 26.7% efficiency. Joe Pavelski leads the team with three power-play goals. Look for that to be a factor when Oilers vs Stars goes down on Tuesday night.

Oilers vs Stars Prediction & Pick

Both Edmonton and Dallas are playing strong hockey heading into their first meeting of the 2021-22 NHL season. Taking a look at recent history between the two teams, we can see the two squads have played some low-scoring affairs lately.

Skinner and Oettinger are two of the hottest goalies in the NHL, so “the under” at -120 in the Tuesday NHL odds becomes a top play. The betting total in Edmonton Oilers games tends to get inflated due to McDavid and Draisaitl’s star power, but they aren’t immune to getting shutdown by good defenses.

Dallas’ defense is loaded with John Klingberg, Miro Heiskanen, Ryan Suter, and Esa Lindell among others. We just saw Winnipeg’s strong defense hold the Oilers offense to three total goals in a back-to-back series. The Stars are 7-9 to the under this season.

The Stars have only allowed the Oilers to score more than three goals in one of the last eight meetings between the two teams. With both goalies red-hot, bet on a low-scoring defensive battle Tuesday night in Dallas. Take under 6.0 at -120 in the Oilers vs Stars odds.

Pick: Under 6 (-120)
