  • The Dallas Stars are -140 home favorites over the Minnesota Wild in Game 5 of their Stanley Cup first-round playoff series on Tuesday, April 25
  • Home teams are 1-1 straight up in this best-of-seven set that’s deadlocked 2-2
  • Both home-team victories in the series were by four-goal margins

Even though the NHL Western Conference opening-round playoff series between the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild is knotted up at 2-2, there are definite trends at work so far during the four games played.

Home teams have won twice, and by margins of exactly four goals. Minnesota took Game by 3 a 5-1 count, while Game 2 saw Dallas win 7-3.

When the visitors are victorious, the margin and the final score have been identical. Both the Stars and Wild have recorded 3-2 wins away from home.

Oddsmakers are going with the home team to take charge of the series again in Game 5. Dallas is set as -140 home favorites. The Stars are 2-6 against the puck line in their last eight home games.

In four regular-season meetings between these two teams, a similar pattern emerged as to the one witnessed so far in the NHL playoff bracket. Home and road teams each won twice. Two games were one-goal decisions, while the outcome of the other two games were both determined by three-goal margins.

Puck drop is set for 8:00pm ET on Tuesday, April 25 at American Airlines Arena. TBS is showing the broadcast in the USA. Sportsnet is carrying the game in Canada.

Wild-Stars Public Betting

In the NHL public betting splits, it’s a solid decision. The underdog Wild are drawing 53% of handle in the moneyline splits. Dallas is getting 61% of bets. In the spread splits, the Wild are garnering 69% of bets. However, 61% of handle is backing the Stars.

When it comes to the total of 5.5 goals, the over is getting the majority of the action. It’s drawing 79% of public handle and 73% of bets. However, in eight of the last 12 times that Minnesota visited Dallas, the under was the winning play.

The Stars are the eighth betting choice in the Stanley Cup odds at +2200. The Wild are the 11th betting choice in this market at +3000. As far as series betting, Dallas the -145 chalk to win the set. Minnesota is a +122 underdog.

Key Injury On Both Sides Of Ice

The Wild played Game 4 without top forward Joel Eriksson Ek. He left Game 3 with a lower-body injury, playing just 19 seconds. Eriksson Ek also missed a portion of the latter part of the regular season with a lower-body ailment. He was third on the team in goals (23) and fourth in points (61) during the regular season.

Meanwhile, Dallas was without veteran forward Joe Pavelski for Games 3 and 4. A 1000-point scorer during his NHL career, Pavelski is dealing with a concussion. The all-time leader among US-born NHLers with 64 Stanley Cup goals, Pavelski skated Monday but hasn’t been cleared for a return to action.

Stars Power Play Is Crushing It

The Game 4 victory for Dallas was fashioned via a pair of power-play goals by Tyler Seguin. Dallas improved to 43.8% (7-for-16) with the man advantage during the series.

Stars forward Roope Hintz has already accumulated eight points through four games (4-4-8).

Even though Marc-Andre Fleury is in his 17th Stanley Cup playoff, it’s Filip Gustavsson who’s started three of four games in goal for the Wild. Gustavsson has posted both of Minnesota’s wins, but took the loss in Game 4. Will the Wild go back to Fleury, the proven veteran with multiple Cup rings, for Game 5?

There’s no such debate in Dallas. Jake Oettinger is the guy for the Stars. He blocked 32 shots in their Game 4 triumph.
