  • On Wednesday, July 15th, Bologna host Napoli at 1:30 PM EST at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium
  • Sixth place Napoli look to jump back into good form after a disappointing draw to AC Milan on the weekend, while Bologna sit narrowly in the top half of the table in tenth place
  • Currently, the favorites in the match are Napoli with a moneyline of -119

With the Serie A’s 33rd round of fixtures kicking off this week, Bologna take on Napoli at home as they look to stay in the top half of the Italian table. Most clubs have six games remaining on their campaign schedule, including Napoli who only have a two-point lead for Italy’s last spot in European competition next year. Napoli’s recent string a success was cut short again by a pestering AC Milan team, making this the rebound game for Gattuso’s squad.

However, Bologna will use this game to get back to any sort of consistent form. Since the restart, Riccardo Orsolini and company have compiled two victories, draws and losses. The team is definitely not in shambles, but a run of solid games would help them ensure a top-half finish in 2020.

Will Napoli Bounce Back from the Weekend?

On Sunday night, it looked like Napoli were going to make a massive statement in the Serie A, and go into fifth place over Roma. Then, Franck Kessie scored a spot-kick in the 73rd minute for AC Milan. It marked a frustrating night for the team from Naples, as they would have to keep clawing for a top-six finish, despite already qualifying for the Europa League. Now, they face Bologna, a team they have had serious trouble with recently.

The last two times Napoli took on Bologna, they were defeated by a goal. Note, Napoli won the last two match-ups prior. However, three out of the four of those games ended with only a single goal separating the two Italian teams. Meaning, this game could be close, and if it comes down to the wire, Napoli could get snagged by a sneaky Bologna team.

Bologna Don’t Have Much to Play For

Despite the drastic odds, there is still a chance for Napoli to make a top-four finish. However, Bologna is not going anywhere. They are where they are, mid-table. That is perfectly okay as well, it just means that we should all expect a little bit less out of them come Wednesday night. They blew a 2-0 lead on the weekend and just looked for the most part, unmotivated.

Best Bet

Finally, the best for this match is the Napoli moneyline with odds of -119. These odds are not the best on the table, but they are the most sensible. This game will most likely be close, but it is just hard to expect Bologna to get anything from this game given their recent form and lack of composure coming down the stretch.

Napoli have the talent on the pitch to get it done, and still finish the season out respectively, possibly even in a higher position on the table. Goals for this match are also hard to predict given the volatility of their scoring, and the fact that their last four matches averaged 4.25 total goals per game. Nonetheless, expect Napoli to win this one on Wednesday.

My Pick: Napoli moneyline (-119)
